Hocus Pocus

This is the one that did it for me. I just started rereading it for the first time...ever???

This crossed my path in High School and I was never the same after. It altered my view of what fiction was, what it could be like and what it could do.

To the young me this book screamed with a secret anger and angst about the world.

But mostly in spoke to me in a way that was both new and familiar.

I know KV is not everyone's cup of tea and that this is not considered his best work BUT

it ran into to me like a freight train, just at the right time.

This and Hitchhiker's Guide.

It is so funny to be reading it and see the HUGE influence Kurt Vonnegut has on the podcast. I'm not someone who can quote passages of his book or even remember the plots.

But the podcast feels like it would not ever exist if it weren't for this book falling into my hands at just the right time.

50x66 Finished it "The Night Circus". Very immersive, I wish I could go live at the circus.

This sounds great.

Its funny how books cross your path at different times in your life and how that effects how you read them and what you get out of them.

Thanks for sharing!

Ready Player One is on my reading list, I'll have to bump it up.

Any word from the girls on the grass?

50x66 Started this on my road trip, just saw it and picked it up. Very rich imagery and I love the circus. Waiting for the conflict to unfold. Or the love story. Or the conflicted love story.

Anyone have any thoughts?

Other circus books? I read Water for Elephants but I think I forgot most of it.

Did you like Shopgirl? I read Born Standing Up and thought it was great.

50x66 Let me know about Way of Kings. Someone on twitter is a big Sanderson fan and wants me to test those waters. The problem I have is I'm such a slow reader.

50x66 I just borrowed a copy of the newer version of this book called "Do the Work" not sure if it has any new info but it is presented in a cool way. Very bathroom reading friendly.

I keep that on the back of the john for inspiration!!! A lot of that book has held true for the podcast. Just do the work. What are you looking for inspiration on?

50x66 Anyone want to read it? Recommend or not? I was curious about it.

50x66 Is Seveneves part of any trilogies or cycles? I have not read any of his stuff since Cryotomonicron. I tried one other one but I did not make it.

50x66 160 pages sounds digestible.

50x66 Wow! Pynchon is real tough stuff! Can you describe Lot 49 in a few sentences?

Lolita is another one on my wish list.

I just reached the Third Chapter/part of Station Eleven and I really enjoying it. I'm not sure at all where it is going, but I like it.

If anyone grew up around any of the more western Great Lakes they should read it for sure!
