173974 I´m half-way through, but struggling a bit with the cruelty.
173974 I also enjoyed the setting as always with the author, but the financial details were a bit complicated for me, and there were many characters to keep apart.
173974 I started this, but only progressing slowly.
173974 I also liked that the book was more realistic, with the three characters that deal with problems on their way to the truth as well as the people of different ranks.
173974 I´m about half-way through, and enjoying it.
173974 I also like that these mysteries are more realistic than the Cadfael ones and that the characters are very well described.
173974 I read this book and really liked it.

I didn´t nominate it, but like the series. I read the first book a long time ago and then - though they should be read in order - some of the later ones, and they are much better, so don´t let yourself be stopped by the first volume in the series.

Finished it today, and agree with what you said.

173974 I recently read Death in Delft and really liked it. There were flaws too so "only" 4 stars from me.
173974 I´ll read this too, but haven´t started yet, so please no spoilers!
I liked the first in the series best, but the others weren´t as good. Looking ahead to see what I´ll think about this one.
173974 I loved this book too, though I only found out after having read the Americanised typo version on Kindle that I had the paperback Theft of the Iron Dogs at home. *slaps head* Perhaps another read of this one at another time...
I love Lorac´s writing which draws us into the country setting from the beginning on and the different characters.
And thanks for the explanations Keith and the description of your life in different places!

Yes, that´s my problem too, so I often don´t nominate any more.

But as this book isn´t exactly my taste, sorry, I wouldn´t mind that others read it, if it were available in the UK f.e.
173974 No big fan of mysteries where the wars play a big role and neither of ones that go back to events that happened years ago. This one was quite good though, even if it dragged in between. There were lots of red herrings, so whenever I was sure I had guessed the murderer it turned to someone else. Didn´t find the action in the end so good either.

I also didn´t like the negative terms for the Germans, as this book is set in the Golden Age, but has not been written then. Otherwise I liked the writing, even if I thought it could have been done in a shorter book, as well as the characters who weren´t only black and white.

I would give a second book in the series a chance and decide then whether to read it further.
173974 Finished it today, so will pop over to the spoiler thread. :)

Death in Delft, yes, was vague, sorry.

173974 I want to read the first one in this series in February (with another group), so can then say if I liked it. In case I do I´d like to continue here.

173974 I liked the Peter Shandy book too, though not everyone did, as far as I remember, so looking forward to reading more of this series.
