I finished it last night- totally enjoyable for characters, writing, plot, and ending! I’ve never been disappointed in a Tey book. Glad to have joined in on this month’s group read!

I found this a nice 1920 era well-plotted first-in-series. Looking forward to reading the second book of Jack Haldean sometime soon!

Just finished! While I struggled at first getting into the story, I was hooked about a third of the way in. I enjoyed the red herrings- while I suspected Mrs. Verrity, I couldn't figure out how the murders were accomplished, so was thrown off by that. I also had figured out the identity switch but was fairly certain he wasn't the culprit. Overall, I thought it was a brilliant start to the series.

I started this a couple of days ago, having a bit of trouble getting into the story, but the fact that I am not feeling well probably is contributing!

Starting this today, my first by this author!

I started this late in the month, but finished it quickly, just in time! It was a fun read, amusing, and fresh. Great choice!

I liked this one more than the earlier ones, probably for the personal interactions of Dalgiesh. The relationship with his late aunt and the inheritance of her home gave more insight into Adam Dalgiesh. I have fallen behind in this challenge because of the pandemic/library closings in the spring so not sure I'll be able to complete it unfortunately, but will try for one or two more.

Only a few chapters in but I'm liking this third book so much better. The writing is quite beautiful actually! Dalgleish seems to be fleshed out more too.

I enjoyed the first book more than this one, although the ending was great! I had Nagle pegged for the murder but really liked how that twisted around. Would like to know more of Dalgleish's personal side, hopefully he is fleshed out more in the rest of the series.
