Newport Librarians’s comments from the Take the Library Challenge! group.

Okay everyone! It's been about a month since we have checked in. Everyone still plugging along? What are you reading now? A few books I have read that I highly recommend are listed below, along with the categories I put them under!

A Book By a Female Author - Salt to the Sea by Ruta Sepetys

A Book a Friend Recommended - Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel

A Book with a Love Triangle - These Shallow Graves by Jennifer Donnelly

A Book That Takes Place in Your Hometown (I went with homestate of Mass since I lived there for a long time) - The Disreputable History of Frankie Landau-Banks by E. Lockhart

So, we have provided you with a list of books that fit some of the categories you can choose from. What book recommendations would you give others? You don't have to match it up to a category (though, if it does, tell us!) ... just let us know what book comes to mind when you are asked for any book recommendation!

So, we are curious! How are you deciding which topics to pick? Are you looking through them for something that interests you, or reading what you want and trying to fit it into a category? Both ways work, you are in a judgment free zone!

Deb wrote: "I started with Negative Reviews. I finished Go Set a Watchman last night. Now I'm reading Lois Lowry's The Son for a book I can finish quickly."

What did you think of Go Set a Watchman? Would you give it a negative review as well?

Mattie wrote: "I started with the category "A book that takes place in your home town," and taking that broadly, I have read Lincoln Child's A Forgotten Room - which takes place in Newport. It's a typical Lincoln..."

I loved that one Mattie! Mainly because I liked looking for all the "local" stuff ... still have to do some research to see if any of the restaurants and other things are real or fictional!

Welcome to the first post in the book challenge! What category are you starting with first?

Our Teen Librarian Ms. Colleen is starting with "A Book Set in a Different Country". She is reading The Carnival at Bray by Jessie Ann Foley. It's about a teenage girl that moves to Ireland when her mother gets remarried. There, she is dealing with a new school and friends, a boy, and family issues. When something devastating happens, she starts an adventure to fulfill a dying wish.
