Jen’s comments from the What's the Name of That Book??? group.

I read this book in the early to mid 80’s. The main character is a high school girl who lives with her father. I don’t think he was abusive but he definitely put her down. He told her she wore too much makeup and that her Candies shoes were slutty. He made a comment about her getting a bacterial infection from wearing too much mascara.

She had a dog who was her best friend and Dad was involved in the dog being hurt-hit by a car. After that she sort of lost her will to want to continue living at home.
