Everyone is always giving gifts to each other. At some point our main character paints his door a different color and disrupts the community. There is a female character whose house is very messy but she knows where everything is because she has a good memory. I read it as an assigned reading book in 5/6 grade - i think 2005ish. It sounds like Hobbiton (right down to the fact that they have round doors) but I know it’s something different.
