Oh sweet! That’s great. And fast… the last book I looked for took about 2 years to find. Thanks so much. Now I’m even happier to have a copy on the way.

Hmm, I honestly can’t tell if that’s the right one or not. It certainly could be, but the reviews make it sound like the father is a major character, and I don’t remember that being the case. Maybe 25 years have just dulled my recollection of dear old dad. At any rate, there’s an easy enough way to find out… I’ve got a copy on the way. Thanks!

I’m looking for a YA book I read back in the 90s. The setting is urban and in North America in modern times- Main character is a teenage girl whose father goes to prison, I think for some white-collar-type offense. Rather than go into foster care, she runs away. I recall at one point she enlists the help of some bikers to help her lose a law enforcement person who is tailing her. I also remember she often refers to her teeth as “wearing fuzzy sweaters “ because she doesn’t have a toothbrush when she first runs away. At the conclusion, she somehow reconnects with her father and they go on the lam together. Any ideas, wonderful reading community?

Thanks to Tab for finding the book, and to Bargle for the link. I’m super excited that this is finally solved!

Yes!! That’s it. Thank you so much for solving this one!

Yes, mostly a romance, definitely YA. Location is small town, maybe coastal?

Good to know. Next time, I will refrain from bump-spamming the group!

I guess the bump worked, but I didn’t get a notification for it. Maybe that’s just the way of the bump....
I don’t remember why he ended up being the one to volunteer to take her in, but there was a local group of nosy do-gooders who thought it was scandalous for them to live together without being married, hence the forced marriage.
Good questions, thank you!

That bump did not seem to be successful. Unless there’s a bump lag?

I don’t specifically remember the location, but it was a small town in North America.

Sadly, I don’t remember a thing about the cover. It was set in modern times (60s-80s, most likely). I believe the author was female so... that really narrows it down! 😬
I do recall a scene where someone is harassing the MC’s husband, and she throws something (like a sack of potatoes) at their car as it’s driving away in the dark and then lays on the ground and acts like they hit her to make them think they hit ran into a pregnant woman. She uses that as leverage to get them to lay off the hubs.
Thanks for the inquiries!

No problem. I also love that book!

That’s got to be Jacob Have I Loved, by Katherine Paterson.

Main female character is possibly named April? The couple ends up breaking up but eventually gets back together, I think after she becomes pregnant by another man. I realize how disturbing that all sounds, but I wasn’t much over 16 myself when I read it and it seemed perfectly palatable then, and was actually a pretty good book....
