185 Update: Currently unable to get to my computer but will edit and mark this as Solved tomorrow. Thanks again!
185 @Kris The description doesn't sound familiar so perhaps I didn't finish it? Same with the covers. However, I did some more online sleuthing and found a free preview of the prologue on archive.org. Superstitious by R.L. Stine is the book I'm looking for! Thank you both for your help figuring it out. Preview below if either of you would like to read the sexy onion scene. ;-)

185 The rockabilly werewolf from Mars wrote: "Maybe Superstitious, The Season of Passage, The Listeners, Blood Roots, or Scarecrow? Haven't read any of them, but they were ..." I'm leaning toward Superstitious, even though the cover and description don't look/sound too familiar. I've been thinking it was an R.L. Stine book, but I couldn't find one that looked right. My county library system has a single copy of this one, so I might try to go check it out next weekend. Thank you for the suggestions!
185 Sometime between probably 1996 and 2002, my grandmother took me to Walmart to purchase a newly published book from one of my favorite YA horror/thriller authors. I remember that I had been waiting anxiously for it to come out, so she took me not long after it was released. I don't remember the cover, but it was a thick paperback book. I was reading R.L. Stine and Christopher Pike at the time, so I thought it might be one of theirs or someone similar. I seem to remember that it was the first adult novel written by this particular author. I don't remember the plot, only the first page. A man and a woman appear to have just had sex in a bedroom (maybe dark, maybe a hotel room). The protagonist (I think female) thinks to herself that the room smells like onions. I remember this because my grandmother was embarrassed that she just bought me a sexy adult novel and started talking about what the couple could have had for lunch that day. Vague, I know, but this is all I can remember. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!
