YES! Thank you so much! I have been looking for this book and the corresponding series forever! I'm much too old to read these books now, but I think I only ever read the first one and have always wondered about the rest of the books. So grateful that you knew this!

Thanks! I don't think that's it, though. Probably a little earlier than this book.

Here's what I remember: one of the girls is intending to to go an audition for a show, she's been an actress before and feels like she has the show in the bag. The other girl goes to the audition with a friend, but the casting people like her look and cast her in the role that the original redhead was supposed to get (already had?), thus making her an enemy of the first redhead. The girls may or may not have wound up as friends?

The first girl is glamorous, the second girl may have been more of a tomboy but has to get a makeover or dressed up for an event - I think there could have been matching black dresses? And that may have been depicted on the cover.

I read it as a kid, so probably sometime in the 90's.
