I just finished this. You know the kinds of stories that stay with you a long time, and you just sit with them? This is one of them. It’s still sinking in. What a beautiful story about perseverance, loyalty, compassion, and something deeper than friendship, I can’t find another word for it. I can’t choose a favorite. I love them all. Bigwig definitely made me so emotional on multiple occasions though. I don’t even have the words to do this book justice. But i am so glad this group gave me the opportunity to read it, it’s been on my list for a while now. Has anyone read the follow up book yet?

I’ve never read this before and actually only know of it because of the Netflix adaptation (which I have yet to see). I’m goin..."Is it still on Netflix?! It would be cool to watch after having read the book. I just started reading it too, and so far it's so cute. It's a mixture of really innocent and cute and dark.

I’m so excited for this book. I bought it months ago wanting to read it, especially with after reading The Stand by Stephen King (anyone?)
Kathi wrote: "I’m reading it too. About 60 pages in and totally sucked in. Very readable!" I am happy to hear this, I heard from some that the book was actually really slow and dry, and not very suspenseful. I have it checked out from the library but haven't been able to start it yet.

I think I may be the first person to post on here, but I finished this book a couple of weeks ago. It was my first introduction to Anne Rice, and I wasn't disappointed. It was a very dark, gothic, and brooding book. I thoroughly enjoyed it, and would recommend it to anyone interested in this genre... it does have a specific vibe I don't think everyone would necessarily enjoy.
I really loved how deep of a thinker Louis was, and was very disappointed when he went so cold and apathetic at the end. It is understandable, he was certainly jaded, but I was still disappointed- especially when he abandoned Lestat.

I just barely finished the book, and here are some of my impressions. I really found the characters endearing, especially Crowley and Arizaphael, most of us can agree on that I think. I do think the ending was not what I expected, but I shouldn't be surprised with the kind of tone of the entire book as a whole, and knowing Gaiman. It overall was a very good read, clever, made me laugh at times. I definitely have the show to watch on my list now, and I heard Benedict Cumberbatch is in it, so even better ;)

I’m a Hufflepuff and totally in. Where do we find the thread?

@Vanessa
I’m about halfway through the book and I totally agree. I feel the kids are actually super obnoxious, and a lot of their conversations dragged on for me. I do understand how they were connected to actual events and Adams power though.
Was anyone else confused about how the hellhound was owned by Warlock and then was suddenly Adams??

I actually am experiencing the book for the first time, I tried reading them a few years ago and couldn't get through the first part, it was so slow. I was too used to the movies, and kept trying to imagine the book that way. As I have tried reading it this time, I take my time and realize just how wonderful and intricate this world is. I definitely feel that mature, adult sadness in it and I love it. It was discouraging when I was younger but somehow, as I am transitioning into adulthood, it's strangely comforting. Tolkien really was special.

Hey I’m tori! I want to actively participate in discussion here, but how do I respond to comments on my phone app? There’s no option to!

Man. as someone who’s grown up and loved the movies, this was challenging in the beginning! I’m now about 240 pages in so I’m getting used to Tolkien’s telling of the fellowship, but I began the book imagining the actors from the movies but that did NOT work out. This is more in line with the animated films from decades ago, which I also grew up with!
I read the hobbit a few years ago and loved it. It’s definitely more in line with that style, though the pacing is much slower. So far I’m enjoying the book, it just needs to be seen as a *completely* different entity than the movies!

Hey everyone! I’m Tori!
I’m new to the Goodreads group forums and getting the hang of it still but I’m glad to be a part of this with everyone! I LOVE reading! I love classics, autobiographies, thrillers, fantasy, mysteries, and philosophy.
I would say my ultimate triad of authors would be Dickens, Kierkegaard, and Tolkien. (For now! Maybe this group will expand my perspective some!)
I have a fiancé, a wonderful family, and a cat named Mac that I love. I’m in Idaho for collage though originally from Maryland (where my east coasters at?!)
Excited for a fun year ☺️

I actually read this book just a few months ago. It was a book that is hard to describe in words. It’s heart wrenching, and brought such an awareness to the world in my mind.
