I'm loving Julia's backstory too! I don't know what else to say about this section, I'm about 52% through it now according to Kindle, and reading it a lot faster than I read The Magicians, so yay for that.

Just finished Chapter 8, thought I'd come here to give some thoughts---I find it grating how Quentin is never happy, no matter what, that he's always looking for something more--it's probably so grating because it's super realistic. I agree with Sam, the pacing in this book is much more consistent, I don't find myself putting this down as often as I did the first installment. I'm definitely wary of Julia--I feel like she's bad news, we shall see!

I finished the book last night. I can't form coherent thoughts regarding the last 100 pages, definitely need to sit on my rating for awhile. I'm so upset about Alice, but so many things happened at the end of the story that I haven't really had time to miss her yet. The pacing was absolutely bizarre throughout the whole book, and then boom, the ending blew my mind. I honestly didn't see all the Chatwin twists coming. This book definitely left me feeling unsettled, and now that Julia is a part of the crew, can't wait to see the direction the plot is headed. I sincerely hope Quentin grew a little bit, he was atrocious throughout most of this book, but I think that's the point.

I'm about 200 pages in, and I can't decide if I like this book or not, I have very conflicting feelings. I get this pretentious vibe from the story, and yet, I can forsee that every element and word is there for a reason. I agree with Sam, that everything will come together in the end.

I don't care for Quentin at all, he's self-centered and generally not a good person. I don't like most of the Physical Kids actually--however, they're all flawed, and I think that is fantastic characterization.

I thought the Antarctica segment was fascinating. This book is definitely taking some turns that I don't see coming, and it's completely unpredictable to me. I hope it stays that way!
