March Wrap-Up (14 new)
Mar 15, 2021 05:35PM

208213 I couldn't find a Norwegian book that I felt drawn to, so I'm hitting pause on the challenge for a minute and started Piranesi after someone in an ONTD book post called it eerie / mentioned something about the architecture being eerie? idk lol.

don't remember who that was but if you see this, thank you, cause I LOVE it so far.

Sorry, RIN, the author is British."

Oh no! lol okay back to the drawing board, thank you!

edit: Okay, so I struggled finding something I was interested in; I considered The Way Through the Woods: Of Mushrooms and Mourning or The History of Bees but idk, I'm not in the mood for those right now? So I might go with The Faster I Walk, the Smaller I Am because it's short and weird lol.

208213 I completely forgot I'd already picked out The Mercies for this month even though I only decided that about a week ago lol oops.

Depending on how much motivation I have, I might look into something by Han Kang (I read The Vegetarian last year and I hated the first two thirds but really liked the end lol.)

208213 I finally read Normal People after putting it off all of 2019 out of fear of being disappointed and I liked it a lot! Rooney's writing style is really lovely and I've bumped Conversations with Friends up on my tbr.
208213 I'm going to finally read Boy, Snow, Bird after buying it strictly due to the cover being gorgeous a billion years ago.

Oh god; that was my original pick and I ended up putting it down in favour for Normal People because it was taking me so long to get through. I had to like, decipher & analyze the writing to know what was going on half the time. Idk if I'm gonna go back.
208213 I've been chipping away, slowly, at The Turn of the Screw and I like it but it doesn't lend itself well to reading in snippets, which is what most of my reading is during the week. Probably gonna go off theme for a bit to get back into the swing of things.

Sep 05, 2019 01:25PM

208213 After a brutal reading slump last month, I picked up Equal Rites last night and wowowowowowow. I love it.
Aug 08, 2019 06:18AM

208213 I downloaded Lock Every Door by Riley Sager and No Exit by Taylor Adams; gonna start with the first one. I haven't read in almost a month but I really miss it so I'm cautiously optimistic.

edit: I just realized these are both male authors and I'm displeased by this revelation lol.
July wrap-up (8 new)
Aug 08, 2019 06:15AM

208213 Wilder Girls ruined my goddamn month.

I got bored + annoyed with it so I kept putting it off and ended up not reading for half the damn month. Probably didn't help that I got an iPad so all I want to do is draw.

Before that though, I did read Little Darlings for the theme. And I didn't like it. 🙃 July sucked. 🙃

208213 I read Little Darlings which is apparently a take on the whole "faeries took your baby" / changeling folklore and it was disappointing lol.

I started Wilder Girls the other day though which someone called a "feminist Lord of the Flies" and idk how accurate that is but I'm enjoying it a good amount, especially considering I don't usually fuck with YA.
Jun 27, 2019 07:12AM

208213 lol I'm a mess this month.

I finally started my themed book - The Paper Wasp - a few days ago cause my cheap ass was like, I'm not dropping $18 on an ebook by an author I've never heard of so I read her first book (The Wonder Garden) first and it was so good.

It's a long weekend though and my plans are just read + draw and Paper Wasp isn't too long so I'm HOPEFUL.
Jun 14, 2019 04:55AM

208213 F i n a l l y finished Why We Broke Up, so I'm f i n a l l y starting on this challenge with The Secret History.
Jun 10, 2019 09:52AM

208213 lol my first book for this is supposed to be The Secret History but I've been so busy with life / work that I haven't even finished my "quick" off-theme read that I started on June 1st yet.
