Yes, for sure! I look forward to doing more buddy-reads in the future! The Shadow of what was Lost looks very promising! I'll take a break for awhile and then send out a group message once I'm ready to get back into it and choose a new book! ^_^

I'm glad you enjoyed this final part as much as I did! It's amazing how everything just began to click near the end. I like how you mention "I could have predicted that, why didn't I?" as this thought was running through my head as I read this fantastic ending. Sanderson left so much until the very end, but it was all worth it. We had so many answers given to long running questions, it was just brilliant. I'm surprised to hear that his Stormlight Archive series is even better then Mistborn. This makes me beyond excited. Brandon Sanderson has definitely stepped up to one of my favorite authors of all time, despite having only read three books by him.

But yes, still quite a few things that went unanswered. I'm glad you mentioned Human (the Koloss) and how we didn't get anything more on him. I completely forgot about him tbh!! But I would've loved some answers there. I think it would have been great if the koloss turned back to humans or something, and we saw who Human was. Ahhh yes same with Alrienne, Demoux, and Quellion.... I want more answers. Ughhh and I would have loved to see Ore'seur/Tensoon to be reunited with Vin! To be completely honest, I just don't want these characters stories to be over. I am excited to read the next generation books, but.... no Vin, Elend, and all these characters we've grown to love? :(
Hahaha YES there NEEDS to be a monument of some kind, depicting Vin and Elend in the next generation books. They better be some respectable legendary heroes that people sing songs about and tell tales to their children about.

Yes you're right, these unanswered questions were why I rated these books 4 stars rather than 5. I also felt like the pacing could have been a bit better and the writing more beautiful, but I still loved the series and would highly recommend them.
It's now September (I need to get better at replying faster) and I still can't stop thinking about this series. I've been reading some fantastic books since then, keeping myself from falling into a reading-slump after reading this magnificent series, but I still can't get it out of my head. These characters are still on my mind, and I miss them.
The group will be having a bit of a break as I work more on my channel and other things, but perhaps it will return with another Brandon Sanderson book to read! I'm not sure, I might make a poll for people to vote over a few different fantasy books, don't worry I'll set the poll way ahead of time so you have time to order the book if you don't have it. It was a pleasure buddy reading this series together!! Aghh I love Mistborn so much, I honestly feel depressed now that these characters stories are over :(

My bad on the late reply!

It was certainly a very enjoyable part of the book! I was also sad that Reen and Kelsier weren't real :( I was glad though to finally be able to put together that odd passage in book two where it mentioned Zane having some type of metal spike in his shoulder. I remember you mentioning that in a book 2 discussion, and now we finally know why!
Ahh yes I want to pick up the Unbound collection as well, especially after discovering there's a story about Kelsier in there.
I was really happy Vin saw through Ruin's tricks. I was actually questioning, maybe she was wrong? Maybe this really is Reen she's talking to? But I'm glad Vin's stubbornness was an asset this time.
It was a VERY powerful scene, when Elend was kneeling in the mist, as the mist spirit made its final appearance before fading out.
Yes I completely agree with your questions about the kandra contract, how could a kandra accept a contract by a group meant to overthrow the Lord Ruler? I don't get it either, and I'd like to know what they get out of the contract.

"Listen up, dad, there's this Skaa guy who escaped your Pits here, he's conspiring to end you, he asked one of us to impersonate a certain Lord Renoux in a small southern town near your capital, in order for another girl Skaa trash to play his supposed niece and gain access to the Luthandel Aristocracy and get near you. Just send our dark cousins, you know who *wink-wink* to deal with him, alright? Kisses, over and out"

LOL!! This is great XD but yeah you think they would warn the Lord Ruler! Hmmm you might've found a bit of a plot hole ;)

Thank you! ^_^

Hahahaha, there's hardly any good fan art of OreSeur's Kandra body, so I had to go with the dog XD But yes, he could basically just be depicted as a blob with toothpicks!

I'm really glad you went ahead and read through the book! College really tied me back, but now that I've finished it I had a lot more time to focus on reading. I just put up my final discussion!
TenSoon is such a character, I love that Kandra. Hmm at this point I didn't really know what the Kandra's purpose was either, I guess just to spy and what not, for the Lord Ruler.

Yesss Elend definitely is a man of high morals, while also knowing what has to be done. The ball scene was fantastic, the part where he pulled out the book still makes me chuckle XD

Was it in this part that the Mist Spirit Appeared again? I think it was in the third part.

Yeah I was thinking the italics was Sazed during this part as well!
It gave me hope that he would eventually heal enough to be interested in sharing knowledge again :/ his depression was just so depressing.

While reading this part I was definitely wondering if Kelsier had actually become a God or something! There's NO way he could appear to Spook! :O

211518 Just moments ago I finished this masterpiece. I'm still a bit stunned, but will try to get my thought out as best I can!

First of all... WOW. What an ending!! Honestly, I nearly came to tears. I love this series so much, and this final book was my favorite of them all. I still can't get over all that has happened.

This final Part was longer than the previous ones so there's a lot to talk about, I will try to keep it organized!

Vin’s Fight with 13 Inquisitors:

- I was so scared for Vin when Marsh began breaking her bones. I mean, I was confident this isn’t the way she was going to die but it was still scary! She would have been in so much pain.
- I WAS REALLY SURPRISED ABOUT HER EARRING. I feel like maybe I should have put it together, but I never did until the book explained it.
- Here fight was so badass!
-
ā€œThey hit one of the lower spikes, the metal piercing the surprised Inquisitor’s chest. Vin wrenched herself to the side, out of the way, but hung on to his head, her weight pulling him down the spire. She didn’t look as the spike ripped through the body, but when she hit the ground below, she was holding only a head.ā€
[…]
ā€œMarsh swung his axe for her head, spraying water.
She caught his arm.ā€

spook

The Mist:

- THE MIST IS PART OF PRESERVATION WOAAAH. I mean I kinda was thinking this anyway, but it was still surprising to see Vin draw on the mists and use ALL of it! I loved the scene where she flew so high up in the air that she was above the mists, before falling back down to utterly destroy the Inquisitors.
- I also DID NOT expect the mist attacks to actually be a way of snapping people and making them Allowmancers!
- Then I was so blown away when Vin basically BECAME Preservation (or something like it) and could view the whole world as well as Ruin’s true form. THIS BOOK IS AMAZING.

spook
Kandra:

- Oh wow, the First Generation was the Terris Packmen all along!!! I REALLY was not expecting this.
- TenSoon is so brilliant. He was so brave to stand up against his own people, and try to bring to their realization that their religious prophecy was coming true. Of course, it was Sazed who eventually convinced the First Generation (thanks to TenSoon sending him there).
- I hate KanPaar. What a tool (heh get it… because Ruin used him).
- The Resolution was basically a mass suicide O_O Well I mean, they turned back into Mistwraiths…. I wonder if Sazed/God will fix their species and make them sentient again. Sooorta wish we had a resolution on what happened to the Kandra.
- I was also surprised to find out that atium was the body that Ruin was looking for. And all along it was the mysterious ā€œTrustā€ that the kandra have talked about and was being held in the homeland. I still don’t exactly understand why Atium is made completely of Ruin and not Preservation, but whatever it’s all done now!

Elend
- Earlier in the part, I loved this short convo between Ham and Elend about Cett:
ā€œCett is going to be furious.ā€
ā€œHe’s a paraplegic. What’s he going to do? Bite us?ā€

- Daaaamn, the scene where Elend discovered that his soldiers where Seers/Atium misting, and the Koloss slaughter that pursued was so cool, though of course it was tragic how eventually the Koloss ended up killing them all.
- Elend had character development even up to his very last fight. I’m glad he didn’t die in fear, but had faith in Vin and what was going to happen. The weird misty-angelic-like Vin that guided him and helped him fight was awesome.
spook

- It was very sad to see Vin beheaded as Divine Vin watched… I was so sad when this happened as I had no idea what was going to happen.

Spook:

- In the last post I mentioned how I was worried for Spook’s life after he was burned in the fire (that feels like so long ago now) but I was SOSOSO happy to discover that he survived.
- In fact, Spook actually made it to the very end even when Vin and Elend died, our main protagonists! I’m happy Spook and Beldre are in love. Oh and btw, I’m actually not mad/sad that Vin and Elend weren’t able to be revived in the end, I’m sure the place they are in is much better. I was just so happy Sazed left Spook a note!
Sazed:
- Sazed finally got out of his depression, and had faith that Vin would return, even when everyone was dying. While Vin did return in a way (and a red haired person that must have been Ruin) it was actually Sazed who was meant to be the Hero of Ages! I remember in book 2 wondering if Sazed would end up being the Hero of Ages, but I pretty much pushed that idea from my head since Vin was so focused on in this third book. I even began to wonder if maybe Elend would become this Hero, when he took the atium and burned it with duralumin. But nope, it was Sazed! Sazed became the very thing that he was doubting this entire book; God.
- I loved how all the prophecy clues clicked together! And how, with the knowledge from his coppermind, he rebuilt the earth way better then the Lord Ruler did! I just loved the ending, I honestly think it’s one of the best ones I’ve read.
spook

Unanswered Questions :
- I was a bit disappointed that nothing happened with Marsh. Sanderson made such a point to say that Marsh still had a bit of himself hidden away in the Inquisitor, and that he was saving himself, waiting for the perfect moment. But it never came. I wonder if Sanderson actually forgot about this while writing? I was really expecting Marsh to take control and stop his atium-enhanced body from dodging Elends attack, resulting in his death and freedom. I just feel like the story was building up for something to happen with Marsh, but I guess his big moment was when he ripped the earring from Vin’s ear.
spook

- What happened to Cett? We didn’t see him at all when Elend arrived at the pits of Hathsin. I think it would have been a PERFECT scene, if at the very end he was walking across the green grassy field. WALKING, you know on TWO legs! It would have been so cool to see that Sazed healed him.

Overall, I absolutely loved this book and this entire series. I had so much fun reading it! I’m really sad it’s over, though I do plan on reading the Wax & Wayne series sometime in the future. In January I’ll have video reviews up for each book in the series, I also plan on working on some lore videos relating to Mistborn.

Let me know your thoughts about the ending!
Dec 16, 2017 01:32PM

211518 I am shook.
I'm happy to see Spook realize that he was being mislead. He did the right thing pulling the metal from his body (yay I was right about it being a hemalurgy spike! Not that it was hard to notice) as well as from Quellion. Spook is honestly such a hero, running into the fire, extinguishing his tin, in order to pull the lever that will flood the canals again and save the city and its people. It seems that this will end in a sacrifice though, just like Kelsier :( It makes me so sad, because Spook has become my favorite character. He did the right thing though.

The battle on the stage was intense. I was expecting Beldre to be an Allowmancer, however I was thinking that maybe she was a soother and was slightly manipulating Spook to talk about his past and become more comfortable. But no, she was a coinshot all along!

And Ruin, that bastard! I'm glad Spook saw through it, and realized this was not Kelsier speaking to him.

Alright, I'm going to rewind a bit and talk about things earlier in this part.

- First off, I was surprised that Elend never corrected his soldiers after the one punched General Demoux. I was even more surprised when Elend said he would have to execute that soldier. It just didn't seem like him. Why not correct his soldiers first, and tell them that these "mistfallen" are not in ill-favor of the Survivor. If they continued, then think about punishments.

- The scene with Elend killing the Koloss and saving the village was really awesome. I think he's worried his bloodlust makes him similar to The Lord Ruler, but really he is just seeking vengeance and justice. He is a good man.

- Later, when Elend is walking through the ash, he drops to his knees and the ash goes up to his chest. This really put into perspective for me how thick the ash fall has gotten. With that amount of ash, who knows what you're stepping on, there could be a fallen sword or something underneath that could slash your foot open.
- Anyway, so the mist spirit seems to be pointing back to Luthadel. Maybe this is where Ruins body is hidden? And something has to be done about Penrod.
- it was amazing to see the mist spirit return and try to communicate with Elend.

"I will kill you, the words said. Death, death, death."
XD I love how Elend replies, "Well... that was pleasant."
Of course this was Ruin corrupting what it was writing though.
And later, when Elend says "Either it's changing things, or you just don't know your letters." Hahaha Elend is the best.

- WOAAH so the italic passage for chapter 56 mentions a short man with black hair and a prominent nose falling from the sky, being left in the ash. The passage says, "It's gods had to die with it" alluding to this man who fell from the sky being a god. Was this the human form of preservation dying, after using the last of his will to appear as the mist spirit to Elend? I find it interesting how it wasn't described as having any divine form, it was described as having a fairly imperfect figure. However, from what is mentioned later on by Ruin, I don't think Preservation is fully dead, but just his body. I believe his power is still causing some restraint against Ruin.

- This leads me to discussing Vin's situation. Dang, so her brother isn't alive, it was just Ruin the whole time. She saw through it pretty well though, her paranoia was on point! Hmmm I wonder if she can work with Ruin's pride to manipulate him? Maybe by pretending like she gave up hope and will just succumb to his destruction? Vin's a smart gal, she'll figure something out. I think her and Elend just need to forget about the siege and make their way back to Luthadel. I don't care if she kills this Yomen fellow or not, but she needs to escape him.
spook

- I like how these italic passages are giving us much more information then in previous books. In this part we learn much more about the pact between Preservation and Ruin, and how Preservation used most of its power to trap Ruin. And yes, like Dimitris mentioned in a previous discussion, I believe the one writing these passages much be Sazed! This makes me so excited, as it implies that he eventually gets back to doing his research and sharing knowledge!

- Now I also can't forget to mention TenSoon! I never knew he had to torture OreSeur to learn about the character he had to play... :( I believe TenSoon took OreSeurs body while he was imitating Lord Renoux, so the majority of the kandra we know and love has been TenSoon. Though I still like OreSeurs name better ;)
- It was almost chilling to read about the kandra digging up Kelsier's bones and imitating him again. And he's bringing the bones with him, so I'm assuming he will use them again. BUT YAY, TENSOON IS GOING TO FIND VIN AND ELEND!!!

- Now it's been pretty quite with Marsh this time around, so I'm thinking something big is going to happen involving him in Part Five. Well honestly, just something big will happen in general. I hope Spook will survive.... but it doesn't really look like it :(

Let me know what you thought of this part!! ^_^

Thanks! My exams went well! :D

I totally understand what you mean about the connection between the three races now after reading part three!

Yes Quellion is horrible! After reading part three, I thibk there's going to be some stuff revealed about him in part four!
Dec 14, 2017 03:55PM

211518 WHAT. REEN IS ALIVE!!????
I remember mentioning in the first book that I thought Reen would be making a future appearance, however I gave up that thought since we are now into the third book and he’s never appeared. UNTIL NOW. AND HE’S MISTBORN. WOAAAAHH.

Let’s back up a bit though, and talk about Spook and this voice he is hearing:
- So ā€œKelsierā€ is apparently speaking to Spook, saying things like, ā€œI never did like himā€ (referring to Breeze) and urging Spook to kill. Hmmmm anyone else feel like this is familiar? Yes, I am talking about Zane, and the voice that he heard in his head, the voice that claimed it was God. I think Spook is now hearing the exact same voice, only this one is manipulating him by saying it is Kelsier. Could this be Ruin? I definitely don’t think it’s good…
- Btw the scene with Spook in the burning building was awesome! Im worried for Spook though, with this voice in his head…

spook

- This also gets me thinking about how Marsh implanted that metal spike into Lord Penrod, and now Ruin will be able to slightly urge things into motion in Luthadel. So I’m thinking that our poor Spook has also been stabbed by a similar spike, and is hearing the voice of Ruin. Remember that time when he was stabbed by a sword, and the tip of it broke off in him? I forgot if he ever pulled it out, but I remember him saying the swords where very thin. I think these must actually be hemalurgy spikes. Which gets me thinking… is Quellion in league with the Inquisitors? He has a shaved head…. (XD not that that means anything, but just wanted to point it out, as Inquisitors have shaved heads).
- Also on the subject of Quellion, Sazed and Breeze are worried that if they assassinate Quellion, then his second will take his place. Am I the only one that finds this reasoning to be a bit flawed? I feel like it’s just a bit of a plot device Sanderson is using, so that they don’t just assassinate Quellion ;) I mean if they assassinated him, what’s stopping them from taking out his second in command, or just using pressure to scare them.

spook

THE THREE SPECIES:
- Okay I now understand what you meant Dimitris, about the three races being similar!
- In this part we learn that Koloss are in fact, made from humans!! This wasn’t a huge surprise for me, as I mentioned before that I was spoiled about something when looking for fanart, and tis is what I was spoiled about. But still! And it’s also so weird how Koloss, Kandra, and Inquisitors are all so similar in that they are made from hemalurgy! The Koloss and Inquisitors especially give me a Frankenstein feeling.
- We learned about the blessings of Kandra, and how these are hemalurgy spikes.
- In one of the italic passages it mentioned something called ā€˜adonasium’? No idea what that is yet!
THE MIST:
- So this part further discussed the pattern of the mist killings, and how it is always 16% that get sick, with 16% of them being ill for longer. WHAT DOES THIS MEAN!? I mean we know the Mist is intelligent in some way, and is most likely being used by something, whether it is for Ruin or Preservation idk (most likely Ruin though, however the mist spirit trips me up with this idea).
THE SECOND BALL:
- I feel like this ball took place at the Canton for a reason, because that’s where Yomen knew they wanted to investigate. It actually kinda seems obvious that it was made to be a trap. But hey, it was a really cool scene! I loved how Vin went back in forth, making the noble women following her become awkward in their pretending. Hahaha it was pretty brutal how she knocked them out!
- I also enjoyed the argument between Elend and Yomen, however, Elend isn’t exactly making a good appearance to all the people in the city.
- I HAVE A THEORY. I think Yomen isn’t a mistborn. I think he is a Atium misting, the first we’ve ever heard of! This makes it so he has no physical or mental advantages, but can burn Atium to see the future of people’s movement.

But yes Reen just entered the picture; I’m going to continue reading now!

Let me know your thoughts on this part ^_^

Yes, I think Sanderson must have had the entire magic system planned out before writing as well!

I know Elend has been making some really tough decisions, however, I actually like this new confident king he is becoming. I know a lot of his actions seem cruel, but it's what has to be done as the end of the world is happening and they are on a count down. Sazed on the other hand.... well none of his actions are doing anything to help right now. He's just kinda mopping selfishly when everyone else is trying to save the world :( I hope he will get over this soon! I personally believe Sazed and Tindwyl did love each other very much, it doesn't matter if it was consummated or not, that's not what defines love. People can be in love without consummating. Actually because Tindwyl was basically used as a breeding slave, which would have caused a lot of emotional trauma, and because Sazed is an eunuch, this is a good thing for her as she wasn't interested in a sexual relation, she wanted an emotional one as she was never able to have that being a sex slave. And for Sazed, well of course he isn't ABLE to have a sexual relationship, but was starving for an intimate and emotional relationship. So really, I think they were perfect for each other. But yes, nevertheless I would love for Sazed to step up and continue helping everyone save the world.
Oooo that's a good prediction, he very well could be the one narrating the italic passages!

Hmmm I don't think the book is saying that The Lord Ruler was leading the right way, but rather, he was trying to do the right thing, but still had corrupt ideas and ended up not being successful. I don't think Vin and Elend are admiring his actions in a way that he was a "good guy"or anything, they're simply realizing the actions he took to try and hide Ruin from the world, and even planned just in case he was eventually killed. He ruled as a corrupt dictator, striking fear into his people in order to keep them from rising up and overtaking him, then releasing the power in the well (exactly what Vin did). His role as cruel dictator was not a justifiable or righteous action at all, but at least we can understand his motives, he thought he was doing the right thing, but he wasn't. He could have done things in a much better way. Yes I agree with you, I don't know why he didn't tell Vin as he was dying, not to release Ruin. But hey, then we wouldn't have this epic story where they are trying to defeat/seal Ruin ;)

Also I actually think it's a great idea to have Elend fearful that he is becoming like the Lord Ruler. Elend is still very much a purely good character, that is why he fears that his actions are wrong. The Lord Ruler didn't blink an eye when killing people or setting people up for danger. But Elend has a guilty conscious and worries he's doing the wrong thing, when really his actions are much more just then what the Lord Ruler did. And I wouldn't say Kelsier was a "purely good" character, actually I think Elend is much more purer then he was. Kelsier had one BIG flaw; he thought nobles needed to die, and didn't have a problem killing them. I think near the end of his life his viewpoint changed, as he let Elend live, but he never made this public to his followers. Hence why this Quellion dude thinks that all the nobles still need to die. In my opinion, Elend is a more righteous character then Kelsier was.

Hmm I'm not really seeing the comparison that Koloss, Kandra, and Inquisitors are the same, maybe I missed where that was alluded to? If anything, I think some of these races are made by Ruin, and others by Preservation.

This part was fantastic though, and same with Part Two! :D

211518 WHAT AN AMAZING PART!

Let's start off by talking about Spook:
- Spook has become such an interesting character. I would never have imagined the same goofy boy from The Final Empire would become this powerful Allowmantic anomaly, having the power of two metals. Not only that, but his Tin abilities have become so strong he now where's an eye patch, gloves, and ear plugs to protect him from his extremely hypersensitive senses.
- In chapter 23 we get some backstory of Spook growing up as a child in the Eastern Lands, where he was a skaa urchin. The tragic story of how his dad wanted to kill him, and even went so far as to say: - ā€œYou’re not my son! My son went into the mists and never came out. You must be a mist-wraith.ā€
We also learn the meaning of his name, Lestibournes: "Lefting I'm born" which is street slang for "I've been abandoned". I'm so glad Clubs saved him.
spook

- This leads me to the next subject, which has been on my mind the whole time I've been reading.......... APPARENTLY KELSIER IS BACK. OR HE'S A SPIRIT... OR SOMETHING! I NEEEED TO FIND OUT MORE! Hopefully there will be some more information on this in Part Three.

Sazed:
- Sazed, who in the last book was one of my favorite characters, is one of my least so far in this one. Don't get me wrong, I still like him and feel bad for him, but dude the end of the world is happening and you're still moping about the death of your girlfriend and your religious dilemma. I worry for him, but at the same time it all feels very selfish of him to be so focused on his internal struggles when he could be helping those around him find ways to fight Ruin.
- Wow so the remaining Terris people have moved to The Pits of Hathsin! :O

The Ball in Fadrex City
- This is BY FAR one of my favorite parts of the series. I just love how bold and badass the actions of Vin and Elend were, to drop in and attend a ball in a city they plan on conquering.
- The way Vin dealt with Lady Petresen, and to see her followers ditch and flock to Vin, was so satisfying.
- And Elend's talk! This Yomen guy really is a devout follower of The Lord Ruler.
- I LOVED the dance scene! Hahaha when Elend pulled out the book XD
- On a side not I also really enjoyed the earlier scene where Vin met Slowswift.

TenSoon
- We got some information about the two God's that Kandra believe it (no surprise, it;s Ruin and Preservation) with Preservation being the one the Kandra serves.
- We learned about inherit blessings, OreSuer's was Potency.
- YES! TenSoon escaped! And shattered the bones of KanPaar and some others while he was at it ;) Good job TenSoon! No way he's going to suffer for ten generations >:(
tensoon

As for the italic passages, we got quite a few interesting ones in this part! One of them that I found particularily neat was for chapter 25, where it states that skaa and nobles are made with slight physiological differences. It's been really neat learning how the Lord Ruler changed things.
- I also found the italic passage stating that the Lord Ruler banned the knowledge of gunpowder and technology to be really interesting! I wonder how advanced their civilization could have been by now :O

P.S. I have exams in a few days and am extremely nervous, wish me luck!

Yesss I think I'd be able to read it all in 3 days as well, and while I wish I could say I'm holding back because I don't want it to end, the truth is I've just been reaaalllly busy with college :( It sucks because I start to forget things if time goes by in between reading. I got some stuff out of the way though, so I will try to put more focus into reading this book, I'm really excited to see what happens ^_^

Hmmm yeah it looks like it actually can't be Rashek's thoughts. I look forewordto discovering who is writing it!

211518 I’ve finally had some more time to read, for those that don’t know, I’ve been REALLY busy with college lately as there’s been a lot of essays and final work due. After December 12th I will be done though!! ^_^

I probably forgot to mention some things as it’s been a long time in between reading, so feel free to mention anything important that I missed!

Chapter 4:
- The italic passage for this chapter is very interesting! It tells how Rashek moved the planet closer to the sun, in an attempt to burn away the mists. Since the planet became much hotter he made the ashmounts to cause ash and smoke to block out the heat.
- In this chapter we see Sazed review the Canzi religion and reject it, as he waits with Breeze for King Lekal to sign Elend’s treaty. I miss the old Sazed 

Chapter 5:

- The italic passage for this chapter describes how Rashek changed the plants and made them less nutritious. He also changed manking so they could live in the new environment.
- It’s really interesting that Vin discovers the Inquisitors are now using spikes of different metals. She found a pewter spike through an Inquisitors heart.
- Vin and Elend are led to Ministry building in Vetitan where they locate a hidden storage cache. I wonder what sort of food is canned? Andon that note, what DO people eat in this world? There’s mention of canned stew beef but but I wonder what else. They must not get many good crops with how sickly the plants are.
- In this hidden area they also find a metal plate leading them to the storage cache in Fadrex City, as well as a hidden note:
Be careful what you speak, it read. It can hear what you say. It can read what you write. Only your thoughts are safe.
Vin Shivered.

This isn’t exactly new knowledge, but it’s still creepy nonetheless! Like discussed in the previous post, I’m curious as to who’s writing this stuff!

Chapter 6:

- The italic passage describes how Rashek’s power burned quickly, and how he named himself the ā€œSliver of Infinityā€.
- This short chapter was so interesting! Ruin lessens its hold on Marsh a bit, allowing him time to think. In this chapter he is in a Koloss camp with many Inquisitors that have new spikes. We hear some of Marshes inner turmoil in that he will never have enough control to kill himself. He also mentions how it might be better if Ruin takes complete control so that he can find beauty in all the destruction, rather then be the miserable thing he is now. This gets me thinking, other Inquisitors must feel the same thing right? There must be others that gain a brief moment of lucidity. I wonder if in the end they will be able to be freed? Most likely not, as those spikes would have killed any normal human.

Chapter 7:
- YES, finally a bit of information about the italic passages!:
I speak of us as ā€œwe.ā€ The group. Those of us who were trying to discover and defeat Ruin. Perhaps my thoughts are now tainted, but I like to look back and see the sum of what we were doing as a single, united assault, though we were all involved in different processes and plans. We were one. That didn’t stop the world from ending, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing.
- So there is a group trying to stop Ruin!! Was Rashek part of this group, or was he just ignorant? We still don’t know exactly who is writing this stuff.
- I really enjoy reading more about Kandra society, it’s just so alien. TenSoon is finally able to consume a new body. Yay no more pile of sludge TenSoon!
- It’s really cool how Kandra have ā€œTrue Bodiesā€, made from an artificial skeleton with bones made from crystal, stone, wood, or metal. Not to mention their skin is TRANSLUCENT. Dang that’s weird.
- TenSoon is on his way to trial  I’m worried for him!

Chapter 8:
- This italic passage describes Ruin as ā€œIntelligent decayā€.
- Originally I found Elend’s tactic of exposing the people of Vetitan to the mists to be cruel and not in his character, but after it was described how they would all eventually be exposed to it I understand. Better to get it done with early on, and see who is immune.
- VIN’S TAMED KOLOSS CAN TALK. AND HIS NAME IS HUMAN. LOL! Idk why I loved this moment, even though it was incredibly creepy. (BTW I just looked up Human the Koloss and was spoiled very badly. I hate when this happens -.- I would recommend not looking anything up to do with this series.) Human didn’t really have any information on how Koloss reproduce  Where are the female Koloss?

Chapter 9:

- The italic passage confirms that Allowmancy came to be at the same time the mists did. Rashek gained an understanding of the Three Metallic Arts, and how the metal nuggets are a fraction of the Well itself.
- TenSoon’s trial was very intense! Do you guys think his argument will get other Kandra thinking? Perhaps in the future we will see an army of Kandra come to Vin’s aid, calling her ā€œMotherā€ XD.
- Here we get the first appearance of TenSoon’s old friend, MeLaan (no, not Mulan), an eccentric female Kandra who wears a True Body of willow wood.
- Do you think the first generation even still exists? TenSoon himself expresses this thought when he looks up to the top alcoves. So obviously he can’t see them up there, and they don’t talk anymore. I think they don’t even exist! KanPaar, only moments later, announces that the First generation ignore his plea, but maybe he is just making that up.

Chapter 10:

- The italics passage mentions that the nuggets of Allowmancy contain the power of Preservation itself. Hmmm it seems like there is ā€œRuinā€ and its opposite is ā€œPreservationā€.
- Sazed looks at the religion of Larstaism, and he and Breeze discuss the existence of a supernatural force.

Gotta love Breeze: ā€œWell, if I were said force of doom, then I certaintly wouldn’t have used my powers to turn the land black. It just lacks flair. Red. Now, that would be an interesting color.ā€

- Allrianne greets them
- Sazed explains to Vin how he has been depressed and faithless since Tindwyl died. I feel bad for Sazed, but at the same time I’m really missing his old self. I can’t believe he was not even that excited to read the new information from the metal slate. I would think that he would realize how important new information is during this time, even if he is wallowing in self-pity.

Chapter 11:
Most disturbingly, the First Contract contained a provision which, if invoked, would require the mass suicide of the entire kandra people.
:O
- In this chapter Elend makes council to discuss besieging Cett’s kingdom to get to the cache, and gaining the support of Urteau, a town led by Skaa. He also asks people what Kelsier was like, and instructs the to try and keep a smile on their face as Kelsier would.
- Ahhh, so here’s mention of crops and what-not that I was curious about earlier. Ham has the right idea thinking of plants that can grow with minimal light, deer, rabbits, and pigs can all eat mushrooms. Though as this is the final book I don’t think there’s going to be much time for planting crops ;) I could be wrong of course. Also this is the very first mention of earthquakes!

Chapter 12:
WAIT…. The italics for this chapter talk about how Marsh described Hermalurgy as a ā€œmessyā€ process. Do you know what this means??? The person writing all this is someone that is ALIVE right NOW, and they know Marsh! Is Elend writing this? Are these somehow the writings of Kelsier? Because he was alive when Marsh was infiltrating the Steel Ministry and pretending to be an Obligator. No that can’t be it…. Hmmm I’m really excited to find out WHO is writing this stuff!!

- Marsh must have an important role, if he’s the only Inquisitor with 10 new spikes. Is Ruin trying to make some type of host that he can enter into? Or maybe just a super weapon? I feel so bad for Marsh, it would be absolute torture to be in a body and not have control over it. It must be his soul or consciousness that is somehow still attached to his body, even though he is no longer really ā€œhumanā€.

What did you guys think of Part One? I’m loving it, and only wish I had the free time to completely immerse myself in this book.
Think about how far we’ve come from the first book, with Kelsier small, almost pitiful, revolutionary gang. Now we’re following those same characters and new ones as they conquer the world while looking for ways to save it from its foreseeable doom. It has been an epic adventure for sure.

Definitely in agreement! We've seen these characters and Sanderson's writing grow, and the first three chapters of this book are testament to that.

I love how Sanderson gives us these odd perspectives, from in-human creatures such as Marsh (inquisitor) and Ore'Seur (Kandra). It lets us learn so much more about these different beings and their cultures, and I love it.
I want to know about this presence Ore'Seur feels as well!
Hemalurgy is so creepy O_O I'm thinking the Inquisitors are going to be taking on Ruin as their leader now? I still can't wait to learn more about this mysterious evil force that was released from the Well. But what are the Inquisitors goal i wonder? Is it as simple as world domination? Maybe they think everyone needs to become Inquisitors?

Hmm well I guess the answer comes down to what you pointed out at the end of the prologue. Ruin is not yet complete. It needs something to make it full, and the Inquisitors have the job of finding that something.

^ So true! I look forward to what else is going to be revealed in this third book!

The very first line in Italics: "I am unfortunately, the hero of ages."
So I guess this is coming from the Lord Ruler? At least, I would assume so? Thanks for reminding me about these! I completely forgot to mention it this time around, when it's one of the most interesting things! YES, the hero of ages moved the entire bloody planet closer to the sun to try and disperse the mists! :O This is insane!! I love how Sanderson gives us this information through these mysterious passages, with Vin and the main cast discovering some document later on that clarifies where this writing is coming from. Perhaps Rashek had a personal diary?

Idk what's up with Elend being more stronger (or at least having a stronger Push) than Vin and Kelsier. I find this a bit silly. Not every protagonist has to have a unique advantage ;)

You should definitely read the passage in italics for chapter 4 if you haven't already, it's really interesting!

211518 Hi!

So fairly soon I plan on reviewing the first two Mistborn books (and the third once I'm done) and would like your opinion on whether I should make a separate discussion video for each book as well as reviews.

I feel like I don't want my reviews to be too long, so people who haven't read the book will get the information they need and still be interested. Yet at the same time I want to talk about some of the spoilers in the books. Do you think I should make a separate discussion video alongside each review, that basically summarises some of the stuff I wrote in these discussions? This will most likely be something I'll do for many future reviews as well if you think it's a good idea! ^_^

Let me know what you think!

211518 We're now on the final book in this trilogy; a fact that honestly is quite sad. I don't want this series to end! Fortunately there is the secondary Wax & Wayne series which takes place 300 years after this one, though I'll miss the characters we've grown to love.

After reading the first three chapters, it's evident that The Hero of Ages is off to a very strong start! Let's discuss some of what's happened:

Prologue

"Marsh struggled to kill himself"
"... three years imprisoned in his own thoughts."
- Poor Marsh :( I mean, I wouldn't mind if he did kill himself (as horrible as that sounds), this Inquisitor that he's become is most likely going to cause us more trouble. I feel bad though, being stuck in this body that no longer is yours to control.
-So in this prologue we gain insight to a magic system we haven't heard of yet: Hemalurgy. Apparently it requires a metal spike to be driven through someone's heart.

Chapter One
- The book opens several months after the events that ended the last book. This 'thing' that Vin has unleashed on the world is known as Ruin. Hordes of Koloss, as well as the killer mist, have been devastating villages; villages such as Fatren. We see a powerful allowmancer arrive in Fatren, who of course is revealed to be Elend. You can see how Elend's grown, not only in his new allomantic abilities, but in his position as empower. He basically gives the people of Fatren no other option but to pledge allegiance to him, this forcefulness is pretty much needed considering the state the world is in. I can't wait to see Elend grow more in his power and contribute to the badass fighting scenes alongside Vin.

Chapter Two

- YES! OreSeu- *ahem*, I mean, Tensoon! (He will always be OreSeur to me). So glad we get his perspective so early on into the book! Wow he's not having a fun time though. His form is lacking bone structure and sensory organs, he's basically just a pile of sludge. Ughhh and the pain of being lifted by those hooks! Poor Kandra :( I hope he gets a merciful judgment! And by this I mean, outlaw him from Kandra society so he can go and live his life with Vin and Elend, with no need for a contract ;)
Or just send him on over to Canada and he'll be my personal Kandra buddy! ^_^

Chapter Three
- LET THE KOLOSS HIT THE FLOOOOOR. No seriously though, bravo to Elend and Vin fighting off them blue bastards. It's interesting to not that after Vin took down that thirteen foot one, the other Koloss hesitated. Do they actually have the emotion to be fearful??? Interesting...
Inquisitor

- All this Koloss-killing draws in the Steel Inquisitor into battle, whom was leading this particular band of cobalt steroid-enhanced giants. Erggh it sucks that the Inquisitor was smart enough to go into battle with a metal plate to protect the spike on his back.
Inquisitor

Let me know your thoughts on these first three chapters! Next discussion will be for the end of Part One!

Sorry to hear that you lost what you previously wrote before posting! D: That's the worst!

This ending was fantastic. I didn't write as much in this discussion as I usually do, because I honestly don't know what to say. Sanderson wrote this wonderfully!
Yes what is this force Vin unleashed!? I feel like the Mist spirit is separate, as it tried to sway Vin from releasing the trapped 'thing'.
The future, once again, is looking grim for these poor people. Good thing they have a new Mistborn and king ;)

I've heard the third book is the best out of the series, and having read a bit of the third book already, I can say it already has very strong start!

Yes I think Vin was right to release the force, as it was what she thought (and what all the clues where saying) was the best option. However, everyone has been deceived. It seems to me like the Lord Ruler actually had it right all along, though I don't think he went about his responsibilities in the righteous way. He used Koloss to scare and intimidate, when he himself most likely had the power to defeat them.

Yes you're right, all the answers are in Hero of Ages!! I should have a discussion up in a few days after my company leaves :)
