249116 I am not sure of everything I plan on reading this month, but I am trying to branch out and read some stuff I wouldn't normally read. I am going to pick up a YA this month which is Release by Patrick Ness. And I am going to pick up a graphic novel which will be Monsters volume 1. Who knows, maybe I will end up liking this whole trying new things out.

249116 Must read by the end of he month - because they are due back at the library :)

1. Sour Heart by Jenny Zhang
2. Home Fire by Kamila Shamsie
3. Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng *squealing with excitement*

Those are all the definite plans for the month. Hoping to fit some spooky gothic reads in though.... and maybe a little Victorian as well. May pick up a classic like Frankenstein or Dracula. Oh tis the season for spookiness. Happy reading :)

249116 I have to say I was just slightly disappointed by the short list. And it isn't even because I read any that I really wanted to make the short list as much as it was that none of the ones that sounded like my kind of book made it. So from the long list I was most excited about The Ministry of Utmost Happiness, Home Fire, and Reservoir 13. I had read and really enjoyed Autumn. I did not enjoy either Days Without End or The Underground Railroad (unpopular opinions I know). And in all honestly, I really can't be bothered to read 4321 or Lincoln in the Bardo. My enthusiasm for Exit West was really high but some more mixed reviews have come out that have made me question it. I will definitely still read that one and decide for myself though. I do really want to read (and will soon start) History of Wolves. I also want to read Elmet but will wait for US publication to get my hands on it. Wow I didn't realize I had so much to say until I started typing. The prize is interesting every year and I still love following it even if the ones I was most excited for didn't make it. So right now, from what I have read, I am rooting for Autumn. Great topic Russell :)
249116 What a wonderful topic! One I would recommend is The Bone People by Keri Hulme. It actually has a fairly decent amount of ratings on good reads but I think part of this is that it is much more well known in NZ than the rest of the world. All I know is that I never hear it discussed in the blogosphere about great modern classics and it really should. It's a novel about friendship, abuse and culture clash set in coastal New Zealand. Written in one of the strangest styles I have ever read yet it is intensely endearing. One of my favorite reads of last year.

249116 Hello bookish peeps. My name is Chris, and I hail from Indiana where you can find me cozied up in my apartment with my dog and a big stack of books. I simply adore Russell's channel and can't wait to see what the group has in store. I have a booktube channel at Chris Bookish Cauldron if you fancy a chat there. I look forward to everybody's bookish thoughts and recommendations. :)
