The worst book I have ever read was the graphic novel version of Coraline for my young adult lit. class. While I loved the "story," I found out that I am physically unable to read graphic novels -- TOO MANY PICTURES!!! I even kept falling asleep when reading it; I think it's because I couldn't imagine it in my mind like I usually do (the pictures were already there!)
I have about 15 favorite books, so this next one is difficult... I think I can narrow it down to three: Beloved by Toni Morrison, Wicked by Gregory McGuire and The Awakening by Kate Chopin. Beloved is great because I cry, and cry and cry every time I read it --it moves me like no other book can move me. I love Wicked because I think the retelling of the classic Wizard of Oz story from the point of view of Elphaba (Wicked Witch of the West)is brilliant! Finally, I love The Awakening because I read it in high school, and enjoyed it. I revisited it later in life during my divorce, and it meant so much more to me. Then, I have revisited it since the birth of my first daughter, and it meant even more. It grows with me.
