I've read A New Dawn and Lords of the Sith now as well. Working on Aftermath currently. I've also kept up with all of the new comics released from Marvel, which is an area I never ventured into in the past. I appreciate that they are trying to quickly rebuild the Star Wars universe in an effort to help it fit in with the new direction they're going with the movies, and while I do mostly enjoy what I'm reading, there isn't the same attachment as I previously felt. Hoping this will improve with time.

I must confess, when it comes to the new Star Wars canon adult novels, the only book released thus far that I have managed to read completely is Tarkin. This leaves me curious to know if other Expanded Universe readers, those who are avid fans of the now designated Legends, are experiencing the same hesitation. For those who have read A New Dawn, Heir to the Jedi or Lords of the Sith.... I appreciate any insight you may have. No spoilers, please, but I would like to know if you found the books enjoyable and worth your time and money. Thanks!

Thanks for the post

I have read all of the Coruscant Night and Darth Bane books and agree that they were enjoyable. Karen Traviss' Republic Commando books are my favorite in the Expanded Universe, so I would recommend them as the next read to anyone who hasn't had the chance to pick them up yet.

Anything for March?

Jeff, that sounds like an awesome plan!

Still trying to finish Kenobi and about 6 other titles, so I won't be participating in October.

Kenobi

I seem to be having the same difficulty as some others. This book is not holding my attention, which results in my making very little headway. I'm hoping that once I finish a couple of these others I will be able to focus on it with more success.

I've got my copy downloaded as well, so we'll see how this goes.

I'm down for Into the Void

I'll defintely be reading Kenobi once it's released, but since I've just finished Crucible, Darth Plagueis and I Jedi this month, I think I'll step out of the galaxy far, far away for a week or two. I can never stay away for long, though!

Just finished! Can't wait to hear what y'all think

So it picks up about a year after the Fate of the Jedi series and so far has been mainly a Han, Leia, Luke and Lando story. I'm about a third of the way through and I'm enjoying it a lot. Has anyone else started?

Just started Crucible today. So far, so good!

I'm with James on Crucible.

Those are some fun stories about first Star Wars experiences! I watched Empire Strikes Back with my mom when I was maybe 4 or 5, and I've been hooked ever since. I've never gotten into the comics or collecting. I usually do a full 6-film marathon twice a year.... My last one was in January so I'm sure I will have one again by the end of the summer. And aside from EU continuity conflicts, I did quite enjoy Clone Wars. Looking very much forward to Rebels and Episode VII. I do have most of the books and I'm well over halfway on reading them, I think. Sometimes after a new release I will go back and read an older title (but still new to me) just for balance. I try to keep up with the newest releases but sometimes they do get missed. After FOTJ I started purchasing only ebook versions, but now I think I'm starting to regret that because the OCD in me says that my bookshelves are incomplete. Perhaps when there is an opportunity to spend money on things less needed I will get solid copies of the more recent releases. I am working on I Jedi now, which is a first-person Corran Horn story, but it's making me want to pick up the Xwing series (some of the handful of books that I have yet to purchase). Really looking forward to rereading the Thrawn trilogy.... It's been a while!

Voted.

I'm in for the monthly Star Wars read! Has anyone considered starting with one of the older "Tales" books....

The only issue I've had with reading the EU in chronological order is that of course new books are released in different parts of the timeline throughout the year. Sometimes it's easier for people to get started by picking one trilogy or series and then go from there. For example, read through Zahn's Thrawn trilogy, then jump over to Traviss's 501st series. That way you get more of a mix of the eras, and then you can pick your favorite!
