My knowledge of the Star Wars universe has only been with the movies. I've noticed a lot of recommendations to start with the Thrawn Trilogy. But what if I wanted to start "at the beginning"? What led to the Empire trying to takeover? Is that possible? Is there a book that could be considered The Beginning of all story lines?
