30887 First in an all-new series where seductive danger and steampunk adventure abound in the gritty world of the Iron Seas.

After the Iron Duke freed England from Horde control, he instantly became a national hero. Now Rhys Trahaearn has built a merchant empire on the power-and fear-of his name. And when a dead body is dropped from an airship onto his doorstep, bringing Detective Inspector Mina Wentworth into his dangerous world, he intends to make her his next possession.

But when Mina uncovers the victim's identity, she stumbles upon a conspiracy that threatens the lives of everyone in England. To save them, Mina and Rhys must race across zombie-infested wastelands and treacherous oceans-and Mina discovers the danger is not only to her countrymen, as she finds herself tempted to give up everything to the Iron Duke.

It is, but it might not let you save because "your name is too short". GR won't let me update mine if I don't change my name so sod it, I won't update it!

30887 I've started 5 new series this autumn:
Once Upon a Time in Wonderland
Mom
The Black List
Agents of SHIELD
Sleepy Hollow

Once has failed to impress me - in fact I've only bothered to watch 1 of 3 episodes so far. I'm not sure about Mom - love Anna Faris, but the comedy is very much American (obviously) and and a bit too obvious to fit my British humour.

The others, however, phwoar! :D I think my favourite is The Black List. I just love the slightly creepy criminal mastermind that's running the show.

I'm adoring American Horror Story: Coven as well! That series has got to be one of my hands-down favourites right now!!

X-Factor where? I don't remember any Jordins on the UK one this year. Mind, I only watched the audition highlights.

I've had Avicii's Wake Me Up stuck in my head for the past couple of days!

30887 Bit late, sorry Olga. Things got crazy busy after my Belgium trip and just started to calm down again. >.<

I intended to read books by both Jayne Castle and Jayne Ann Krentz, but after reading The Perfect Poison, The Paid Companion, and Wicked Widow in quick succession I never got around to it.

I'm particularly interested in more sci-fi type novels now so maybe it's time to give Jayne Castle a try! Which book by her would you recommend?
30887 Hey Tony, welcome to the group! :)

30887 I've started on The Iron Duke as it's going to be a group read in November. Enjoying it so far - love the world building!

30887 Olga wrote: "The new book by my favorite fantasy writer Sharon Shinn - Royal Airs. It's supposed to come out in November."

Royal Airs is coming out in hardback, might be a bit expensive. :( It's the second book in the series. Maybe we could read book 1 Troubled Waters? I read it last year and really enjoyed it!

30887 I finally finished Mila 2.0 by Debra Driza. I really wanted to love the book - the premise is so cool! It started out so good, but the second half was a let down. :(

Hey Kat, a bit late but you could try The Restorer by Amanda Stevens. It's thriller, not mystery, but it has an underlying romance! (Mind, this doesn't come to a head until book 3).

I read Crocodile on the Sandbank by Elizabeth Peters earlier this year. It's got mystery, humour, and a touch of romance (no "intimate" scenes, though. It's clean).

Julie James is good romantic fun as well. Try Something About You.

It's not mystery, but I also highly recommend The UnTied Kingdom by Kate Johnson. (She writes mystery/romance as well, but I've not read that series). The UnTied Kingdom is a fabulous read! Jeshu, Tara, and Emma all read and loved it, too! ^^

30887 With the end of 2013 just around the corner, those of us in the northern hemisphere are crawling steadily towards the longest night of the year. And what better way to spend the shortest days than with some heavy duty epic fantasy?

So that's our December genre!

Any books suggested should be fantasy and have a second world setting (this means they cannot be set on Earth - past, present or future!).

Please do not suggest books that the group has already read. You can find all our previous group reads shelved here.

You have until Nov 1st!
30887 Hello Francis, welcome to the group. Young adult is a very broad definition! It comprises all genres just a different target audience. Do you like all genres or certain genres in particular?
30887 Good point! The first novel I read by her was The Perfect Poison (I was drawn in by the pretty purple cover!). I actually really enjoyed that one and decided I'd read every single book she's written. That lasted all of two more books when I realised I was reading the same story each time!

I still like The Perfect Poison, though, and go back and read my favourite passages from it whenever I open the box where it's currently being stored.

30887 6. 6th day, smallest book you have read so far this year?

Probably this short I've just read called Dust.

7. 7th day, ever accidentally spilled something or destroyed a book.

I accidentally dropped a book in the bath once. >.< Took it ages to dry out enough for me to be able to finish reading it!

8. 8th day, name an author and say what genre of book you would want them to do?

You mean other than what they normally write, I guess. I gave this quite a bit of thought and couldn't come up with anything. I'd like to see more sci-fi from Kate Johnson, though.

30887 3. 3rd day, pick a book for each of your initials?

Rebecca by Daphne DuMaurier
Laurentine Spy, The by Emily Gee
Heidi by Joanna Spyri

4. 4th day, Do your relatives read books?

Some do, some don't. My grandmother and my father read quite a lot. The boyfriend prefers his computer screen to the pages of a book!

5. 5th day, how many books have you read so far this year?

Including the huge textbooks that don't exist on Goodreads,112.
30887 Hi Lisa, welcome! Congratulations on discovery the hidden world of books! Luckily in this day and age you're spoilt for choice and never have to worry about not having something to read next. :)

30887 2. 2nd day, do you like to read in cafés or other social places?

I do occasionally but I won't go there expressly to read. Only if I happen to be there anyway and want to get some reading done (I always have a book in my handbag).

I always find it very difficult to concentrate on the book if there are a lot of social interactions going on around me.
