3159 Hi everyone,

Thanks for participating in GoodReviews! We've decided to discontinue the contest for now, in hopes of developing some other writing contests in the near future. Stay tuned and let us know if you have suggestions.

Thanks!

3159 Unfortunately, GoodReviews participation never reached the level we were hoping for, so we opted to discontinue. We're interested in developing a different kind of writing contest in the near future, so stay tuned, and of course we still welcome suggestions!

3159 DEADLINE: May 12, 2008

We are looking for the funniest reviews on Goodreads! No book should be taken too seriously. This is an open-ended category. Reviews for any book on Goodreads may be submitted.

* You can nominate your own review or someone else's review.

* Click "post a comment." Copy and paste the text of the review AND the link to the review on Goodreads.

How to add a link to your post:

If submitting your own review:
1) Click on the book title.
2) Your review will appear just below the general info box for the book. Click where it says "X comments." If you just added your review, this will say "0 comments."
3) Copy the URL for that page, which is a page exclusively for your review and any associated comments. You should see your name near the top (for example, "Jessica's review"), and you should also see "review/show/" as part of the URL. If you do not see "review/show/" you are on the wrong page.
4) Paste the URL at the top of your contest group post. This will make it easy for people to click the link and vote for your brilliant review!

If you are nominating someone else's review:
1) A few options:
a. If you are browsing the reviews for a certain book and find a review you like, click "X comments" next to "Like this review?" It may also say "add a comment," if the review does not yet have any comments. Proceed to step 2.
b. If you know a friend wrote a cool review, navigate to your friend's profile page. Click "see all bookshelves" then select "main" from the list of view options. Search for the book title, and when you find it, click the "view" link next to the title on the far right. Proceed to step 2.
3) Copy the URL for that page, which is a page exclusively for that review and any associated comments. You should see the reviewer's name near the top (for example, "Jessica's review"), and you should also see "review/show/" as part of the URL. If you do not see "review/show/" you are on the wrong page.
4) Paste the URL at the top of your contest group post. This will make it easy for people to click the link and vote!

If you want to get fancy, you can embed the link using HTML, but this is not necessary.

3159 Thanks so much to everyone who participated in our inaugural month! There were so many great reviews - some funny, some thoughtful, and all interesting to read. Here are your winners for March 2008:

Fiction: Read Raych's review of The Witch of Portobello

Nonfiction: Read Amy's review of In Defense of Food: An Eater's Manifesto

Classics: Read Alex's review of The Great Gatsby

Congrats to our winners! (I will contact you individually to arrange the gift certificates).

And thank you to everyone for all the feedback during this growth month. Thanks to your suggestions, we have made two big changes. First, NOMINATIONS. Now you can submit your own review and/or nominate any review on Goodreads. Second, OPEN-ENDED CATEGORIES. We still have fiction and nonfiction categories with specific titles chosen, but we now also have Funniest Review, Most Literary Review, and Best Critical Review. For these categories, you can write reviews or nominate reviews for any book on Goodreads.

Also, we're aware that the voting process didn't work very well this time around. Each of the new categories has better (hopefully) instructions for linking to your review or the review you wish to nominate. We're also looking into better ways to facilitate voting, so stay tuned!

3159 Which books would you like to review in the coming months?
Feb 21, 2008 11:45AM

3159 * Word limit: 750 words

* Monthly deadlines are listed in each of the category posts.

* You can nominate your own review or someone else's review.

* Reviews nominated for specific categories (fiction, nonfiction, etc.) must be for the book in question. Reviews nominated for the open-ended categories can be for any book listed on Goodreads.

* For consideration, reviews must be nominated by a posting in the contest group that includes the text of the review and a link to the review on Goodreads.

*Reviews will be judged by member popularity (number of votes on each review) and by the Goodreads staff. We will be looking for originality, clarity, content, and humor.

* Reviews do not need to be favorable in order to be considered -- unfavorable reviews will be judged equally.

* The winners will receive a $20 gift certificate to Amazon.com.

* Each review must contain only original content posted on Goodreads. Please do not paste your reviews previously posted on Amazon or other sites.
