33903 I have to be honest -- I wasn't really looking forward to Magical Realism....

Thanks Lekeisha for Captaining! See you all next round. :)

Review: This was clearly a "connector" book. I read and LOVED the first three of the series and this was pretty good. It was nice to catch up with the characters when they weren't in mortal peril every 10 pages. It was kind of a slice of life book and it worked to connect what finished in book 3, and set up book 4, but honestly I don't know that it is necessary to move on in the series.

Shelf: Cozy Mystery
Book: Cold Touch
Completed: 5/22/23
How it Fits: On SOS Mystery/Thriller List
Rating: 3 stars
Review: This was fine. It was entertaining. And I probably won't remember it in a few weeks. The paranormal investigators were an interesting idea, and I remember liking the first one of this series, but it's probably just going to get lost in the masses of books I have on my pile to read.

33903 I'm trying to make a decision on my book for the Fae shelf -- I have soooo many options.....

Review: This is not a book I would normally pick up -- tbh I had never heard of it until it came up as a BOM in another group -- but it was fun! It was a mash up of everything fantasy, with no apparent rhyme or reason, so it didn't take itself too seriously. The road trip/quest went on a bit too long, but for the most part it was entertaining.

Rating: 4 stars
Review: This was a little old school as its been out for a while, but it was entertaining with a few twists that made it difficult to figure out who the killer was. I do enjoy a little psychic with my mysteries though. I will probably add this to my endless lists of series to continue.

Week #2
Shelf: May Day
Book: A Good Girl's Guide to Murder
Completed: 5/8/23
How it Fits: Published May 2, 2019
Rating: 3 stars
Review: I would love to give this 3.5 stars, but Goodreads... I liked the mystery, and I thought it was unraveled in just the right amounts. There was good action, and for the most part likeable characters you wanted to root for. My main issue was the MC got a little too...righteous at times. She was supposed to be a HS senior, but felt she was smarter than everyone -- especially the adults. It was a little too over the top. Also, a good rule of thumb is not to confront the suspected killer (an adult man) alone, but what do I know....

33903 Hello teammates! Sorry I'm a little delayed. I am horrific at names, but I kind of like Snap Crackle Pop of the ones Rosina listed.

I'd rather not be captain as I just finished captaining another challenge, but I can do it Lekeisha if you would rather not.

I'm still a little up in the air on my Free Space, but leaning towards Heir of Fire as I'm late to the SJM party and working my way through that series. I saw it on the shelves the other day. I have not read either of those series Rosina -- although Jane Yellowrock stares at me from my TBR on a daily basis. :)

33903 Wow, that was a quick round! But I'll admit I was having trouble fitting my UF book in. :)

Thanks for Captaining Leslie!

Review: This was fine. I probably would have liked it better a few years ago, but YA reading has progressed so far that this is kind of simplistic. And it was just a wee bit tooooo close to the basics of Supernatural for comfort.

Review: I have read enough of this author to know I'm going to get a certain writing style. Sometimes I like it, sometimes it annoys me. This was a mix of both. I liked the set up of the book/series and feel it has the potential to be pretty interesting. I though the MC "found her powers" a little too easily, and the fact that it was super duper special powers was a little much but I guess it sets it up for drama in the future. I may continue the series as it was a quick easy listen on audio, but its not one that I can't wait to get back to.

Yikes, Leslie! I'm sorry you are still feeling bad. Hopefully it goes away soon!

33903 Huh. I realized I don't have that much PNR on my TBR anymore - so I'm going to go with this -- at least for now. :)

How it Fits: #21 in Psy-Changeling series which is first on PNR group list
Rating: 4 stars
Review: I have had mixed reactions to this series since we moved on to the Trinity group, but I really liked this one. It had a lovely grumpy-sunshine romance, some interesting new developments with the overall story arc and good pacing throughout. And it's always good to see the Dark River cats. :)
