35325 I was excited to read all four excerpts in English. Interesting to observe how all these four authors who I know quite well and read their books in Lithuanian, sound in English. I new that Radvilaviciute, Pukyte or Parulskis would sound well in English, their texts are universal and translation into English is quite adequate. But it is not the case with Kuncius, and here I agree with Emilija. I think that Kuncius' jokes, his play with situations and contexts is quite isolated. For us, Lithuanians, it is funny, but translation into English would probably need numerous footnotes, explaining the game with words and facts. It is almost the same as translate into Lithuanian a hypotetical story about the professional cricket player, where everything - humour, allusions, metaphors would be related to cricket. For the imaginary Lithuanian translation of such a book footnotes would not be enough - there would be needed an additional DVD with the explaning the rules of the game and related jokes. Adding some authoritative opinion about why cricket is such a great game.
