35559 DQ Day 1 - One to Four (p62)

1. What drew you to this BOM? Was it the fantastic reviews it’s been getting? Or the cute cover? Or something else?
This book's hype is immense in the Booktube community, and I wanted to start it for a long time.

2. What do you think of the writing style so far? I didn’t expect it to be so funny. I laughed out loud a few times at the terrible office Linus works in and at the rude neighbor. I love the way she is so rude about Linus but then keeps trying to set him up with her grandson.
The writing style is definitely funny and I am a huge fan of Dark gritty writing but I do not hate these either.

3. What do you think about Linus as the main character? So far, he seems to be quite frightened of the world. How do you think he will cope in the strange situation he has been put in?
He is.... Interesting indeed. And relatable.. A lot more relatable tbh. I wonder how does he cope up with everything.

4. I was surprised that one of the children on the island is supposed to be the Anti-Christ. Heart-warming stories don’t tend to feature someone like that. What powers do you think he will have?
That's a huge shock to me. But it's intriguing nevertheless.
35559 DQs Day 3: The Tree That Is Our Life - Wild and Free (59%)

11. Regarding the system error, that occurred when Nora tried to return to the library after that speech. Do you think Nora could have trouble returning to the library from one of the next lives that she visits?

I think yes. That scene wouldn't be there otherwise.

12. But you will never live if you are looking for the meaning of life. (p. 151) Do you think Nora is going to "find the meaning of life", "be happy forever in a parallel life", or "will want to die and leave the library forever"?
So.. It's either find the meaning of life or "Live" by embracing what we are given isn't it?
I think Nora desperately want to LIVE now. To hell with meaning or whatever..

13. Are you surprised about Nora meeting Hugo, another Slider, as he calls people like them in the in-between?
Yess. I was not expecting it at all. Most of all, definitely not expecting Darwin's third law. Definitely 😂

14. For Nora it's a library, for Hugo it's a video store. What do you imagine would your variant of the in-between be? (And obviously you are not allowed to say library now, because I'm guessing most of us would go with that answer. Be creative and let me know what else you would feel comfortable with.)
Local Mall near my house. Its multi-plex so each section in each floor can be different life. I used to go there with a special person and spend hours and hours together even if we never buy anything! Yea.

15. We finally get to see Nora's life as a rock star. In what direction do you think this will go? Is it going to be the life Nora is happiest with and stays the longest/forever? Or do you think that she's going to leave it rather soon again?
This rockstar life seems be the best one for her after her Olympics life. Although i don't think she stays forever.
35559 1. Were you planning to read this book before it became a BOM? If so, what drew you to it?
I wanted to read this but wasn't actually planning to pick it up anytime soon if not for BOM. Ofc the word Library and the premise drew me in..

2. What do you think of Matt Haig’s writing style (and those short chapters!) and how he has set the story up so far?
I am pretty neutral about his writing style for now. Short chapters are always good and a hint of philosophical aspect in his writing feels like plus to me. But i feel some weird knot in the writing which i am unable to put my finger on right now.

3. What are your thoughts on Nora? Are you attached to her yet?
Looks like ill be the first one here to actually attached to Nora. It's because I resemble her 90%+.. :)

4. If you were somehow able to, would you want to see all of the different outcomes that could have played out in your own life? Or would you rather just leave things as they are without ever knowing?
Oh definitely. Would give anything, ANYTHING to know certain things!!

5. What did you think about Nora’s first glimpse at a road not taken? Were you surprised by which book she chose to open first or by how quickly it disappointed her?
Not really. I expected her first thought to be him. I would have done the same. So yeah..

You see, doing one thing differently is very often the same as doing everything differently.

Very often, yes.

35559 Hello everyone..
Sorry that am realy really new to this sort of event but am really interested in participation so i hope my generous team would help me in figuring out things here.. :)
35559 1. Do you think someone from Audrey’s family is the killer? There does seem to be a connection to her family, with former servants being killed left and right?

I strongly feel a strong urge to accuse Nathaniel. idk it's just the vibes he emanates reeks of murder and isn't he too good a person?

2. This book has a bit feminist vibe to me with a lady like Audrey Rose. One of my favorite quotes in this section is from chapter 20 ”I didn’t see any men running about, birthing the world’s population then going on to make supper and tend to the house. Most of them buckled to their knees when the slightest sniffle attacked them. Do you have a favorite quote or a chapter you enjoyed?

I enjoyed almost all the chapters involving the investigation and dissecting scenes and particularly Indian food and clothing references

3. Did it surprise you that William was Audrey’s suiter? Do you think Nathaniel knew about this?

Well, I honestly have no opinions about William at this point.

4. What do you think of Nathaniel’s betrayal? I thought he and Audrey had a better relationship, I liked their interaction at the carnival. What do you think of the punishment Audrey’s father has for her? Will she be able to stay away from the case?

Not even slightest chance that Audrey would stay away from it but i think her father might seriously forebode her this time unlike before

5. That last chapter ended a bit on a cliffhanger. Is Thomas the killer, or does he know who the killer is?

I really ship this character hard and doesn't want him to be murderer?? but at the same time I would really enjoy him as a Jack too.. uhhh.. Am I sadistic? or do I have multiple personality disorder?!
35559 1. Why did you decide to join this BOM discussion? Do you like this genre?

It's been a while since I last participated in BOM so decided to be back. Never actually tried this genre before tbh

2. This is Kerry Maniscalco’s debut novel and also the first in a series. Did she do a good job so far? Do you think it was a smart move to take the Jack the Ripper as a story line for her first novel?

For someone's debut novel, I really didn't find that knot which normally exists in such case.. And since Jack's case is a mystery overloaded.

3. We have met the two main characters, what do think of them? Do you like Thomas and Audrey Rose? I’m pretty sure they eventually end up as a couple, but do you like their interaction/banter?

Characters are very well crafted as of now at least. Specially Thomas characterization is brilliantly thought.
Sarcastic and flirty conversations are my absolute favorite..

4. What do you make of Audrey Rose’s family, just strange or are they guilty of something?

I definitely feel something wrong with them but can't quite place my thoughts as of now..

5. This story is set in London 1888, do you think the author did a good job on portraying the time period?

I, being non American has wee opinion about this. Others know better I suppose :)
