I'll just volunteer that I nearly hyper-ventilated when we first discussed it. But do you find that those books that don't combo and don..."
I like the simplified version for the summer - maybe it'll get me back into posting!

-Gender
-Race/ethnicity (w/ at least 50% non-white authors)
-LGBTQIA+ status
-Disability
-Religion
I'd also like to get back into reading (1) non-fiction book a week and at least 3% translated books.
For total number, I'm going to set my regular goal but since this year I'm 72 books behind I don't know that my life will meet it.
Finally, I'd like to participate in at least one season of this challenge again - but with less of a focus on a megafinish because I've just gotten too busy.

And to sort of clarify - when we get ideas, we have to see whether they're viable. We think next season is goi..."
I'm excited to hear about your celebration - and sad I've been too busy to focus on participating recently!

Upon reviewing census records a year or so ago, my mom realized her mother was likely adopted and may not even have known. Last week Mom got the adoption papers in the mail, so she has a whole new family history to explore.
On my dad's side, I've always found it fascinating that my many-times-great-grandfather and uncle William Bigler and John Bigler were governors of two states at the same time (long before George and Jeb Bush!!!). What's even weirder is that my dad looks a LOT like the California governor, who is a much more distant relative than the Pennsylvania one. Regardless, the interest has to be combined with some disappointment in knowing William supported the Fugitive Slave and Kansas-Nebraska Acts and John supported anti-immigration laws against Chinese migrants. Looking back can be a mixed bag!

Good. I need something to distract me after my sister's death..."
Oh, I'm so sad for you. Hoping you do find some pleasant distractions...

Yes, indeed. It's as if they are talking to an audience who has already read the book and ready to discuss it."
I've had intros completely ruin a book for me - not because of spoilers, since I don't really care that much about them and have been known to read the end of the book before finishing - but because I notice things I might not have noticed otherwise. I guess that's good in a way, since it meant I was paying closer attention to the book, but it's still frustrating. I remember specifically when reading Graham Greene's The Quiet American that the intro pointed out (probably unintentionally) things I found very sexist in the writing. Ruined the book entirely.

1) Read at least 50% books written by non-white authors
2) Track and read more books by and about people with disabilities
3) Track and read more books by and about people who identify with religions other than Christianity
4) Read at least 3% translated books
5) Read at least 12 non-fiction books (1/month)

Seconded! Hopefully no news is good news?"
Agreed. It's so scary watching what's been happening.

I'm very sorry to hear about your dad and hope you find moments to read, even if you can't keep up with the challenge.

I live in Pittsburgh. I just realized I never updated my profile after moving home!

I have the same problem! No one plays Scrabble with me, or any book games...

Oh, that's so frustrating!!!
I was so careful about packing, but with my books all I could do was label fiction or non-fiction books, so I'll have no idea until I open all the boxes where each book is. Moving is tough.

I've owned a house for almost a year and in the course of redoing a single room (and making some other changes elsewhere, I still haven't moved into it. Grateful to my parents for letting me stay with them longer and to my dad for helping me... but I think I'm about a week away from staying there! Hopefully that'll free up at least 45 minutes a day in commute time and settle my schedule - just in time for the fall season!!! Glad to hear I'm not the only one :-P

The Fall Favorites poll is great - I want to pick them all.

Yay! There was a point in time when my friend's baby fell asleep best to Rosie Revere, Engineer - apparently there was something to the cadence that worked well. Unfortunately that was the same time when she tended to destroy books, so she couldn't enjoy it during waking hours, but you take what you can get, right?
