I'm not sure when it's coming out, Holly. I will try to find out for you! We based it on World War II. Our inspiration was a short story we wrote titled "Passing," which is in an anthology edited by Brit Trisha Telep titled THE ETERNAL KISS. After we wrote it we realized we could write a series about what took place in the story. So we did!

Thank you so much for contacting me!

40914 Hi, Kristi! Are you talking about DAMNED? It comes out in August. We don't have ARC's yet but if you would like to get on the review list, please email my assistant at mailfornancyholder@gmail.com. We're not sure how many copies we will receive but we'll try to get one to you.

Thanks for all the sweet words about Joss and Whedonistas. And yes, it will be a great day when ED gets on another show that does not get canceled!

40914 Thanks so much, Kristi. Congrats on your blog! You are the Blog Slayer! I will go check it out! There is a new book called "Whedonistas: A Celebration of the Worlds of Joss Whedon by the Women Who Love Them." It goes on sale on March 15 and I have an essay in it. I'll probably be doing a goodreads contest for it, so watch the skies!

40914 Kristi, how are you doing? I can't believe an entire month has gone by! I'm having a contest on my website for a copy of Buffy the Vampire Slayer 3, which is an omnibus of 3 Buffy novels. Go to www.nancyholder.com to play!

I hope your feeling better!

40914 It's hard when we read things on the net that feel mean-spirited (or we disagree with!) but the problem is, if we respond, we usually come off sounding defensive. This used to happen to me a lot when I wrote novels for Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel. Sometimes I knew about things that were going to happen later on in the series (and sometimes I was completely taken by surprise!) It takes 6 to 9 months (or longer) to get a book published after it's written and as you well know, that's an entire season of epsiodes on a TV show. This lag time can be very challenging for tie-in writers, but it can also be fun to play with. Still, there's no real way for a writer to "win" if someone makes negative comments about what we've written. We usually just keep calm and carry on.

Thank you for asking!

40914 PS: San Francisco was a blast to write I go to the Maker Faire in San Mateo every year. Here's a link to it: http://www.whatsonwhen.com/sisp/?fx=e...

I also loved writing about Spain. BTW, what did you think of the Angel ep when Spike and Angel go to Italy and see Buffy with the Immortal?

40914 As we say in publishing, there's nothing new under the sun. There were sympathetic vampires way before Twilght, or Buffy for that matter. How writers use these ideas is what makes their stories "theirs." All we can do is tell the best stories we can. It would be easy to fall prey to the notion of "high concept"--ok, let's make this one a private boarding school for vampires with souls--but it's in the execution.

It's so interesting to me when writers come up with the same ideas. I've read or heard of a number of stories about Dracula on the Titanic. When I was editing an anthology of edgy fiction, I got two stories about TV changing reality from two excellent writers.

People try to find patterns in life. So do publishers. The first guy is "groundbreaking!" The second guy is "If you like X, you'll like our new author, too!" So saying something is "like" something else is human nature--and reader nature, too.

Also, it takes between six months to a year from turning in the final ms. to seeing a book on the shelves. Other authors may be published sooner because of the publishing schedules at their publishing houses. So the first book out is not always the first one written.

Thanks for reassuring me about my books. It was very thoughtful of you!

40914 Hi, Kristi! Thank you so very, very much. Debbie and I both love to write about vampires; I've written over 30 things for Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel, and Debbie has written a trilogy about a Christian vampire (more on that when she's closer to pub date!)

We were world-building to write a short story for THE ETERNAL KISS, an anthology of vampire romance stories for our editor Trisha Telep. We decided to use World War II as our pattern to describe what's going on--in many ways, a dystopia in our own times. As we were writing the story, we thought it would make an excellent series. We proposed it to Simon Pulse, our WICKED publishers, and they bought it. We were thrilled! These characters have become very real to us and it's great that we get to spend more time with them.

Plus: we get to shop for vampire jewelry! Yay!

DAMNED is the title of Crusade #2. We have had some good jokes about turning in the d.....d manuscript, etc. We haven't seen the cover yet but we're really looking forward to it!
