Eric’s comments from the Extreme Book Nerd Challenge 2018 (unofficial) group.

Probably my favorite book last year was The Rent Collector. It follows the life of Ki Lim and her family living in a literal dump in Cambodia, and their dealings with Sopeap Sin, their loathsome rent collector. Every day they pick through garbage in the dump looking for items that can be recycled or resold for scrap in order to pay rent and buy food and medicine for their ailing child. That starts to change when Ki Lim begins to discover secrets about Soapeap that lead them all down new paths.

Honestly, I struggled to get into this and keep going, but by the end I was really invested in the lives of these people. This doesn't happen to me very often.

For the 2018 challenge, this book would satisfy a category for female protagonist, a book about books, or (view spoiler)[ a sad book (hide spoiler)].
