Thanks so much to all you busy readers & comment posters who took the time and joined in!
I‘ll be glad to throw in an e-copy of Touch of Iron in the GIVEAWAY! May the odds be ever in your favor!

@Travis. - Thanks for the kind words! Into the Woods and This War of Ours are both very different stories, of course, and it’s never a given that a reader likes everything by one author (for example, one of my literary heroes is Chuck Palahniuk but I only own three of his books because I‘ve found I can’t stomach everything he writes) ... but yeah, Touch of Iron does have it ewwwww moments as well as gut punches ... and the best thing is, it gets worse in On the Wheel, wheeeeeee
:devilish, sadistic grin:
If this didn’t put you off, then I’m looking forward to what you think of Touch of Iron!

@laura - lots of sniggering ... what has once been read can never be unread muahahaha

In Touch of Iron the protagonist is female twin Nora. She and her brother have been raised by their loving fosterparents although the general sentiment in their society is to leave twins out ‚for the wights‘ after birth (like the ancient practice of leaving sickly children out for the elves to reclaim the changeling infant).
To be a twin is already a taboo. There are many superstitions around both Nora and Owen. And I thought it’d be fun to play with that a little.
Technically, though, this story is placed thousands of years before the events in Touch of Iron, and in a different part of the world. But the story travels far and wide, one generation after another, and in the end reaches Nora’s village in the garbled version of half understood customs and long upheld dichotomies.
In all fairness, I feel like I should tell you that there are scenes in ToI that will make you make ugh frowny faces too. The gut punch effect is kinda becoming my trademark XD

As to the intentionality - yes! I wanted to use as many dichotomies as I possibly could, so you have female/male, soft/hard, summer/winter, ability to bring forth life/desire to take it - the point is really that in order to be a whole person, to live a full life, I believe you need a bit of both.

Thanks for giving Touch of Iron a chance, too!

wait ... link doesn't work grumble grumble

Ah, yes, how does the male twin become the female one again ... um ... I have a mental image ... but I really don't want to go there in public XD

@harlow - thank you very much for picking up both Touch of Iron and On the Wheel! I’m so glad you liked them! And yes! I’m wrapping up the third book Mother of Slag in order to pass it on to the copy editors in March 😬 it will be out later this year.
No, I don’t think you missed anything! It’s awesome that you picked that much up! I always worry about how much to put in and how much to leave to the reader‘s imagination. Balance or the disturbance of it is something that reappears again and again throughout the Living Blade. Added to that - I love to play with dichotomies :)
Thanks for commenting!

My fantasy name’s Tim And Ra ... I‘m a writer, and I’ve contributed to this amazing anthology in fact! (I‘ll just skip commenting on my own unless you have questions)
But! I’m excited to go through these stories one by one and readalong because my first love has always been reading.
I‘ve currently put myself on a novel reading ban because I‘m finishing up the rough draft of Mother of Slag and when I read too much, it makes it harder to get back into my own writing. Short stories though? I‘ll make an exception 😁
