I really loved Time Traveller's Wife - it's not a perfect novel, and the protagonists are not always sympathetic, but there's not a novel that I've thought about away from the book more than this one in a long time.

I haven't read Fountainhead, but have read Atlas Shrugged. I agree with your sentiments, however. But yes, you really need to read it, just because so many people make reference to the philosophies of Rand.

Finally finished this one. This book reminds me why I don't like politics.

I stinkin' love you guys. Jasper Ffords and Snow Crash...
Haven't read the Handmaid's Tale, and it's on my list... I also recommend Shades of Grey by Jasper Fforde - it's a completely different vein than the Thursday Next series, and very well done.

Note to others - DON'T get this book at Audible. I thought I'd be slick and listen to this one in the car - but the narrator is really atrocious. I gave up after two chapters, and now reading the book myself I couldn't even enjoy those chapters - kept hearing that awful voice in my head. As soon as I got to chapter 3, everything improved and the book is much more engaging. It's a shame - the storyline in those first few chapters is riveting!

Funny you mention sequels when discussing Dune. But if you like Power Grid at all, you NEED the new Russia/Japan map. Both sides are a blast to play, and really breath new life into the game.
I think that sequels and series are popular for the same reason game expansions are - they revisit a familiar and warm memory. It's like checking in on a long-lost friend on facebook - you don't want to have daily phone calls, but it's nice to see where that person is now. It's comforatable, it's familiar... it's this reason that I won't read straight through a series. If there's value to be had in the series at all, it's likely best appreciated with a time gap between the books.

Hard call Ben - both seem like geek favorites. I've read Dune, but not this one - so I recommend you read this one, so we can discuss it!! ;)

I've had my Nook for nearly a year now - I've read about 25 books in that time, but have 130 books downloaded to it! For Christmas this year I got my mom one, and we are sharing an account so we can buy once, read twice. I actively campaign against the Kindle because they don't support open standards, and don't support Overdrive (the library ebook system).
I really like reading on the e-reader - it's easy to keep track of, I can carry it almost everywhere, and store my whole library on it.

I'm going to read this one - embarrassed to say that I haven't yet, as it seems to be essential geek lit.

I didn't read the appendices while reading the book, and didn't have a problem understanding everything - important thing is remembering who everyone is and how they relate to one another. I don't think the apx give anything away, though.
