I've agreed to participate in a Children's Book Fair, but when I did so, I understood the books were going to be middle grade and younger. When I discovered that young adult is also included. I suggested the name of the fair be changed to Young Readers Book Fair.

To my way of thinking, teens aren't going to be interested in attending a children's event. I seem to be the lone wolf among those participating, so I thought I'd ask people's opinion here. What do you think? Will teens turn up for a Children's Book Fair?

Glad you're hallucinating here with me. This has been a crazy few months, so I'm really able to identify with any weirdness. Gotta go get me some p&j, the maybe some bread. :-)

Oh, I meant to say that I've never thought what it would be like to find p&j sandwiches in a book. Some nights that would be very convenient though. :-0

Great answers, Freddie. And you're right, unnecessary details are annoying. I think I have to do some editing!

When I asked this question I realized it was really very broad. I mean, I hate to find squashed flies in books. Did once. But I also hate to find a story that promises me something at the beginning and then never gives that something to me. If it promises me a thrilling adventure, I want that all the way to the end. If it promises me a hilarious character who will keep me in stitches, I want that.

So when I asked my question, this was the kind of answer I hoped for. Please don't tell me about squashed flies. :-)

I was reading an agent blog the other day and she pointed out that there are different kinds of writers: those who write, and then sit back and enjoy that accomplishment. Those who write and publish, then sit back and enjoy that accomplishment. Those who write and publish and promote.

What kind of writer are you?

This week all of the things I said yes to are due. Bad planning, I can tell you that. I've decided to start saying no to somethings or being more careful and start putting things on a BIG calendar, so I can see when I have to deal with the commitments I make. Guess I could go automated and use my computer calendar. It could pop up and wave when I'm about to overload one month.

How do you say no or how do you schedule things so you still can write? Help!

I think reading widely is so much better than sticking with one genre or category of writing. So I'm with you, Beverly.

You make my heart sing, Adrienne. Really. Picoult is a super writer, and anyone who reads contemp/realistic fiction + writes it gets my vote . . . for any office they run for. :-)

I think you are in a very large group, Jessie. Paranormal/fantasy is big and sells well. In my writing, I'm definitely swimming upstream, but the paranormal muse hasn't visited me yet. :-)

If you know me at all or know about my books, you know I write realistic, contemporary YA fiction. Most of the writers I share writing with also are in this category, but I sometimes dabble with a bit of magic when I create MG stories. I'm not sure how I made my choice, it certainly isn't the most popular one at the moment, but it fits me.

I do read some paranormal/fantasy since I have friends who publish in this category, and I love to read what my writer friends set down.

I hope you'll jump in and share what you write and read.

I'm slowly making the rounds of all these forums, learning the ins and outs of how to tell people about me and my books. I used to see my family pretty regularly, but since I started publishing books they have to make appointments with me.
Anyway, I'm having fun. As long as is it I'll do it.
