What an awesome story! TOTALLY didn't see that ending coming! Loved the explicit comparisons with JANE EYRE and the implicit comparisions with TURN OF THE SCREW (one of the few classics I've actually read).

Perry is a haunting character. His gentle side combined with his disconnect with humanity...and the fact even he knows it and knows something is wrong with his wiring. Capote did an excellent job of showing a very complex character. It was evident in every sentence how "painstakingly" Capote crafted this book. Though "literary," it's accessible. I'm not a fan of cumbersome prose, so this ranks highly with me!
