61281 Isn't it funny how some people hate the books that others love (e.g., ATLAS SHRUGGED).

61281 You borrowed the book from a friend, and you've had it for four years? Is that person still your friend? Has that person ever loaned you another book?

61281 Most bestsellers disappoint me because they got so much hype that I always expect something really, really great.

61281 My shelved books have all been read. I have several piles of unread books on tables in the living room/library. These are the books I intend to read next. I consider dusty those books that I keep putting at the bottom of the piles so have been there for a year or longer. These are mostly older books because I read the new ones right away.

61281 I'm reading Agent 6 by Tom Rob Smith . I expect it to be a five-star book because this author's other books were. It wouldn't be considered dusty because amazon.com called it a best-of-february book. But I preordered it so have had it sitting around collecting a little dust.

61281 It looks like the only books considered dusty are the classics. But I have some books that were bestsellers a couple/few years ago that have been collecting dust because I keep meaning to get to them. Don't those count, too?

61281 I'm Beth. I have piles of books I've been meaning to read for a long time.

I hate reading challenges and goals. I work full time, and I read whenever I can, but I have a lot to do on my two days off a week. I manage to get a lot read, but I can't make myself read more than I do. So no goal or challenge for me. Maybe if I had a maid I could do it.

I think many "classics" are overrated. I disliked ANNA KARENENA, CRIME AND PUNISHMENT, any of the Russian translations that I've read. I hated LOVE IN THE TIME OF CHOLERA. I don't enjoy Hemingway.

I have also hated many books that everyone else says they like. For example, I thought THE ROAD was terribly depressing.

I don't read romances, YA books, porn, or books with goofy-looking covers. I dislike books that I think are below my reading level.

I sound like a snob. Really I'm not.

Oh, my, I was supposed to stop at 10, wasn't I?
I've read many of the books that others list as favorites. If I haven't listed them, obviously I don't agree that they're exceptional. Most I just thought were OK

61281 Jessica, you HAVE to read ATLAS SHRUGGED! Put that at the top of your list.
