Apologies that Great Aussie Reads has been so quiet lately. Work got crazy at the end of last year and I've just returned from an extended Christmas/New Year break. Great Aussie Reads will run their reading/reviewing challenge again this year. You are welcome to set your own goal of the number of Australian books you would like to read (and) review. Reviews will be posted on the blog.

Wow, as scary as it is to admit, the year is almost half over - which means the various reading challenges are at the half way point too. How are you going with yours? I'm happy to have completed the Australian Women Writer's and Great Aussie Reads challenges....but have set a target to read and review up to 50 Australian books this year. I'll have to pick up the pace a bit but look forward to it!

Does anybody else find that they read more in winter? As much as I love to read year round, in summer there is always the lure of an outside activity - but in winter on a cold, bleak day I feel totally justified in snuggling up somewhere (preferably in bed) with a good book and no plans to do anything else all day. It's the best!

I do preview on my iPod, but have never read an whole book on there. I wouldn't rule it out (if, for example, I couldn't get the book another way), but for now I think I will remain a "real" book reader.

Thanks! I'm getting back into my TBR list

I have completed the AWW2012 Challenge (10 books and at least 4 reviews), but will continue reading Australian Women Writers and hope to reach a target of 50 by the end of the year

No Pete, men are quite welcome in the group! Thanks for joining us here and letting us know about your wife's books - I'll be sure to look out for them.

Since being part of the Australian Women Writer's 2012 Reading/Reviewing Challenge and The Great Aussie Reads Challenge I have discovered so many new Australian authors - especially crime writers. I had no idea there were so many out there. It's great to have a growing "To Be Read" pile. Welcome also to Christine Darcas, author of 2 novels - it's nice to have you here Christine! (Your books just went onto my TBR list as well :-)

Hello everyone and welcome to our new members. It's very exciting to have three authors in our midst -
Sylvia Petter,
Katherine McCaughan and
Helen McKenna. Thank you so much for joining us here and we look forward to hearing any of your comments/discussions. I hope everyone is getting a good start on their reading lists for 2012. I'm happy to report I have posted my first review on
Wings of Fear.
