68586 People consider him flawed when it comes to character development, which I agree with to a certain extent. So I was looking forward to seeing how his collaboration with other authors turned out. Sadly the stories didn't carry the same weight with me as his solo work. But the sheer scale of his ideas have hooked me a life long fan. Raft is still one of my favorite novels of all time. I haven't read Prospero but I'll definitely check it out.

68586 I thought Flood was great, but sadly it didn't get very good reviews. I was disappointed by his work with Arthur C Clark and Terry Pratchett. To me he's much better solo.

68586 So we seem to have a lot of Baxter fans but the forum isn't terrible active. I guess it's always hard to build a community but for hardcore fans like us I'm sure we'll come up with something to talk about.

So which of the series are your favorite and why?

Personally I'm obsessed with his Xeelee universe and how all the books tie together on such a grand scale.

68586 Raft is part of the Xeelee sequence, it takes awhile to get into and fit the pieces together, but definitely worth it. Check out the groups bookshelf link.

68586 There wasn't a discussion group for the novels by Stephen Baxter, so I decided to create one. Please introduce yourself so we can kick this off right.

Also be sure to check out the [bookshelf] link. We have his novels organized nicely by series.
