1. Why did Gerard never wonder how Penfriends International got his address in the first place?

Young Dr. Arthur Conan Doyle has been attempting to sell his story, The Dark Brotherhood, to a variety of London publishers, with no success. He's at rather loose ends when he agrees to attend a seance at the behest of a mysterious young woman. This occult experience ends in a terrible frenzy of horrific apparitions, bloodshed, and mayhem, from which Dyle barely escapes with life, thanks to a benevolent rescuer.

'As I sleep, my mind will erase everything I did today. I will wake up tomorrow as I did this morning. Thinking I'm still a child. Thinking I have a whole lifetime of choice ahead of me ...' Memories define us. So what if you lost yours every time you went to sleep? Your name, your identity, your past, even the people you love - all forgotten overnight. And the one person you trust may only be telling you half the story. Welcome to Christine's life.
