Oh, Nancy, I wanted to ask what your favorite book club read was in 2009? We had a good year, not too many stinkers - we really enjoyed Loving Frank (rollicking discussion for this one!), The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society (one of my favorites), Firefly Lane, Rebecca and The Glass Castle. We are going to read The Sweet Life in Paris by David Lebovitz, Emma by Jane Austen and The Help by Kathryn Stockett for the first 3 months of 2010. So many good books!

Hi Nancy, Welcome!! I've been a part of this group for a few months now and love the book discussions, ideas and friendly people. I hope you enjoy it too! I belong to a school book group also, although we are moms who met when our children were in 3rd grade - now they are in high school and college! We still meet once a month for lunch and a book discussion. Happy New Year to you too!

Lisa and Fiona, I'm with you...I have "collected" so many books...I'm a sucker for a beautiful cover and a story that sounds interesting, so my goal is to make a dent in the "collection"!!! Happy New Year everyone!!

Yes, Kat, I agree..I pretty much have the same feelings about the two main characters. I did think it was a well written book. My heart really went out to Mamah's husband when he came to Spring Green to collect the bodies of his children and "wife"..he was dignified and gallant in the face of unspeakable tragedy & having to face Wright. I have been to Spring Green often as my favorite quilt shop is there, so last time I went I checked out Talisan which is now privately owned...it is beautiful house (I didn't go in as it was a crazy amount of money to see it) in a gorgeous area, but having read the story it just looks like a sad place.

Nothing like good hearted entertainment, glad you enjoyed another VH Barbara! Teresa

Wow! Perfectly said Petra & Rhonda! I am feeling more and more the same about the books I read..and the books I love are the ones that "take me away" and have sentences filled with beautiful words and imagery. When it makes you take your eyes off the page and look outside, smile and thank God for the gift of writing...that's so good. I've never read GGM, I will certainly try him..thanks again for the great thoughts.

Hi Barbara, I just had to respond to your post, I read Victoria Holt mysteries in high school, college and so on..they were wonderful! These books were my beginning to a love of reading (and buying/collecting books!). They aren't deep, but they sure are great reads and I always wanted to read more of them...thanks for the warm memory and I hope you read more Victoria! Have a terrific day!
