
It was difficult at times. Remembering some events I'd rather block out was, obviously, quite painful. So instead, I just tried to be as honest as possible. If something was so painful to remember that I distorted it in my mind, then that was what went down in the book. Obviously, this didn't alleviate the difficulty. I had days where I didn't do much other than write because I didn't have the mental capacity to both recall those sort of events AND be a functioning adult, mother, friend, student, etc. All in all, it took about five years to write. So much happened during that time. It was very difficult to be accurate and still not go crazy.
