Only a few pages in as I'll try to crank through this in a week. Shouldn't be too hard as it's not a tough read.

I'm not interested in choosing the book, I much prefer to complain about the one someone else chooses.

I go to Ross for my conspiracy theories not for my books.

Never lost interest, still waiting on Brian to assign a new book.

I could go for a good sci-fi. Blindsight by Peter Watts is something I'd definitely read again and love to talk about (esp. with Brian). Or maybe we finally get around to reading The Windup Girl by Paolo Bacigalupi.

I totally agree. Author really doesn't seem to like LA either. Ending was wrapped up way too neatly with no real climax. It just kind of ended.

Sweet it's only $4.99 on Amazon

We need better consensus on our next selection.

I'm waiting for the movie

I'm having trouble getting motivated to buy & read this.

Just saw that the Wachowski bros. are making a movie on this book (Cloud Atlas).

Sounds like we all had pretty similar reactions to this book.

I think he threatened us all too.

How 'bout you finish first?

I finished it. Overall, I thought it was good albeit a bit clunky. Some things seemed to get way too much detail and the ending spun together in a fairly predictable way.
I think the book had real promise with the MMO tie-in and it was entertaining, but I don't feel like it quite achieved greatness. Zula was a very interesting character that spent nearly the whole book in captivity. I wish the WOR had been at least mentioned in the conclusion as well.
How indicative was this book of Stephenson's writing in general? This is the first book of his that I read.

I'm about 75% through now. I thought it kinda bogged down in the middle area (too much unnecessary description) after a strong start and I'm afraid I can see how it's gonna end.

It's definitely a fun read and certainly a page turner. I finally started it a couple days ago and am burning through it. I'm not sure I feel like he's sufficiently explained why T'Rain has beomce the dominant MMORPG, but hopefully more explanation is coming interspersed with the story. It does make me want to play T'Rain.

I don't hate all time travel. I hate time travel where you zip around on the same time line ala Back to the Future.
If the time travel is more cerebral and involves jumping to separate threads of time, I'm much more tolerant ala Star Trek reboot.
