I have been internetless for the past few weeks...Since school has started for the fall I won't be doing much leisure reading until December.Texts come first!

I started reading in the womb...no lie...I was born in a time when expectant mothers didn't work while in a "delicate condition", so my mother, an avid reader in her own right, was essentially a shut in. Since there was only so much you could do at home to entertain yourself, no cable channels people, she would read...out loud.
I inherited her love of books, for as far back as I can remember, I have held a book in my hands. Whether it was making a story up based on the pictures or reading the text.
When I was a child, I was shy and introverted. I didn't make friends easily and books were that friend I needed. I could go anywhere...do anything...be anyone...I painted pictures in my head based on the text. I have a tremendous imagination...it has come in handy as I am an RPGer (Role playing game) and LARPer (Live Action Role Play).
Like Kim, I have a high level of reading and comprehension. Reading, and crossword puzzles, has helped me develop an extensive vocabulary. If I came across a word I didn't know, I would look to my friendly neighborhood dictionary for the meaning.
I continue to read for the sheer pleasure of it. Depending on the genre, it excites, scares, thrills, educates and amazes me.
I love reading...always have and always will...

Not sure what to read but it sounds ok to me

how about reading a favorite childhood story?

I am sorry to hear of your friend's loss...thoughts and prayers are with her and her family.

30 was hard...been there...40 will be nothing

First off, I want to point out that this book was written by a Good Reads author, Tamora Pierce. It is the first in a quartet chronicling the adventures of Alanna, a young girl who wants to be a knight. Her twin brother wishes to be a sorcerer. As the twins approach their 11th birthday, their father sends them to special schools, Alanna is destined for the convent and a life of magic and Thom is destined for the palace and life as a warrior. The twins switch places and Alanna becomes Alan and the adventure begins.
I chose this book as my choice for strong woman month because Alanna, disguised as a boy, must overcome a lot of adversity in her quest for knighthood. The boys are stronger and larger than she is and yet she finds the heart and courage to persevere.
This book is a quick read, I read it in one sitting! Thanks for recommending it to me Kim, this is my third time through and I still just love this story!
For those who don't know, and would like to, the other books in the quartet are:
"In the Hand of the Goddess"
"The Woman Who Rides Like a Man"
"Lioness Rampant"

While I was wandering down the library's bio section looking for something interesting to read for this assignment...I stumbled onto this book. I have always been a fan of the Dr. Seuss books...grew up reading them...owned them all until an unfortunate accident.
I am fascinated by this book. I did not realize the extent of his career. It is kind of a neat thing to see how his art and characters have developed.
I will post more once I finish the book.

I loved the line where it is stated...it is not against the law to OWN books...just to READ them.
An interesting side note, it was mentioned in the afterward by Ray Bradbury, that the character of Montag was named after a paper manufacturer and the character of Faber was named after a manufacturer of pencils,,the interesting part is that Bradbury didn't realize it until well after the story was written. It would seem that his subconscious mind is a powerful thing

Pretty much read this book in one day...I found this story to be thought provoking and a little bit scary, as I am sure we are all aware of the decline in reading skills in the general public and the acceptance of television as our source of "knowledge". People just don't think for themselves anymore. They are happy to watch the box and go on their merry way, never rocking the boat.

Tonight the library called...my book is here! Gonna pick it up after work. Yay!

Put in my request for this book as my local library, naturally, does not have it.

Do people still speak English?
I had had a thought for possible consideration.
Since we have been reading a lot of somewhat serious books, I think a comedy or satire would be a nice change of pace for an after the holidays group read.
Another idea I had was a biography month. Just thought I would put it out there and see what everyone thinks.

I will start this off by saying that I rented the movie based on this book. I found the movie intriguing and decided to read the book. I won't be able to read the book until after the semester is out in December but consider the topic open for discussion.

You are not wrong for not "taking any old job", we are not capable of doing all types of jobs. I currently work with a girl who is not suited to work in a retail environment and the other employees and I have to pick up her slack. You have a great skill. I don't know many who have your dedication and tenacity. Jobs are hard to come by in your area...I know...but I also know that you will keep trying. I had to accept help from my mother, didn't want her to but I did. It is her job to look out for her kids...it's what moms do and I am glad that your mom is there for you.

Sorry I have been away but school and work have kept me pretty busy. I haven't been reading anything except my text book all season. I plan on reading "Fahrenheit 451" as my banned book sometime after finals on Dec. 1st. I saw the movie and was intrigued by it.

I will not be reading this particular work as I find reading plays difficult to follow. Were it in a novel form I would be more inclined to read it.
For what it is worth...I am all about thinking for yourself(don't like Grape Kool-Aid anyways)and not blindly following just because someone says so. There is a time and place to follow the rules...but you still have an opinion...and a brain...USE THEM!

I like the idea of reading books that have been banned. I like the fact that it makes you think.

+I would like to suggest "Ender's Game".

I cried too! Empaths have a have time with that kind of emotion.
