I'm taking two lit courses and have been swamped. I snuck in a few fun reads and am seriously jonzing to sink into some new ones. I just picked up Angels and Demons. I only glanced at the first few pages and it looks great! We'll see...

Oh I so get carried away into other books after I read a good one. How can you not follow a literary lead? I love these book groups. They are great for finding a new treasure, but just recently I stepped away for a few months due to school and pursuing a few great books that were not already on my tbr pile.

Sounds like you have a system down! I am more of an emotional reader. I like to read depending on how I am feeling. That covers everything from CS Lewis to technical books.

You are definitely an enabler! Any suggestions to fill the time? I was going to start the Anita Blake series.

So I read all of them up to Turn Coat...can't wait for more. I also read the Fury series. Butcher is definitely my kind of writer! That's where I've been all summer!

I'm on chapter 9 and am looking at getting some alone time with Harry. :p I do like Butcher's quick pace in writing. I had to put a few King books down recently because he had to describe every air molecule. (Don't mean to diss the King).
But this is a very entertaining read. I am glad I picked up the first four at the same time from the library.

I just grabbed it from the library and plowed through the first chapter. Can't wait for the kids to go to bed to get to it again!

I just put a hold on the first 3 in the series. I figured that would be the safest...to keep me in supply if they grab me. I am thinking they will.
I think it's a good idea to chunk up the discussion too. That way anyone can jump in at anytime without the spoilers.
So often I read a good part or come up with something (question, comment, brilliant insight, well okay maybe not that but you know) and then I get into a discussion thread and it is all over the place and by the time I read it all, I forget my train of thought.

I hope it's okay that I start this!?! I just read the description and it looks too awesome. I am going to the library tomorrow. I hope they have it in. If not, I'll request and get on it right away.
This is a series right? If so, I can sense some late nights reading ahead of me :)
Kim wrote: "I read several at a time. Sometimes it is 1 chapter from each, round-robin style, others are which room I am in. Lately, because I'm not working, I can read about a book day. When I'm working, it..."That is so me too! I have stacks of books in several of my rooms and 2 in my car.

Oh I'm sorry. I didn't see the request. I'll behave. jmho = just my humble opinion :)
I do like the casting too though!

I agree Kim, True Blood does boarderline on soft core porn. I was a bit disappointed at first with the liberties they took with the story lines and how they adapted some things (Tara's character, her back story, her relationship with Sam...I was secretely hoping that Sookie would hook up with him, and what a creep her brother is...with the whole kidnapping thing).
But if you look at it as it is based from the series it makes it more palatable. Although I must say that I appreciate that they show both male/female anatomy pretty equally. I hate it when shows only focus on boobs!
I also think that each book will be a season. jmho

If I'm not into, I mean really into it by the first few chapters maybe about 4 or so, I'm outta there! There is too little time and too many good books.
Now my reading selections change with my mood. I even go into reading slumps and I will put down a few books through out that time, but I usually pick it up when my mood changes again.
Ones, I can remember running from are a couple by Koontz and by Grisham.

I am currently in the process of reading 4 books. I only just finished 3 others so I was reading 7 at once.
I get into moods and as they change so does the book I am reading.

Oh I have to say that my favorite dialogue bit was when they were getting shot at by the police and the police started complaining and they said something to the effect that they had their own problems with being shot at and their complaining made it difficult to cope.
I'm left to wonder what kind of planet would I choose.

Yup finished it. Very quick read. If the other ones are like it we could have these wrapped up by the weekend lol!
Did you already read the others? I just need to snag em from my library. I have to know the deal with his brain and the back story to that.
I just love Ford and Zaphord (sp?) outlook on things, very cheeky and funny.
I think I would have preferred it with all of the books in the series in one volume. I just felt that this was so light as in a quick read. Maybe I am just used to the 600+ page books!
We could just have a different thread for each of the books and people could read them at their own pace. Unless you want to stick with monthly reads.
But I don't know if I can associate myself with someone that didn't (doesn't) truly appreciate the LOTR trilogy. How about I over look this little faux pas and you forgive my spelling ;)

Now now...I adore the Lord of the Rings trilogy and the Hobbit. I only felt that a few sections (such as the songs and heritage of the different species) kwim? Now I do think that Stephen King is great, but in some of his books he uses several pages to describe how someone looks...don't get me wrong I love the King (just look at my bookshelf)
I am almost half way done with the Hitchhickers Guide. I'm hoping to get in done tonight!

I'm only 50 pages into and gotta say, it's a pretty interesting read.
It's amazing how the author is light on the descriptions of the characters, but you get a good sense of them. Great character development! Some authors ramble on for a few paragraphs for something that is equally described in 2 sentences.
Had to chuckle when he had that guy lie in front of the bulldozer while they went to go throw back a few beers!
Tonight I'll actually have a chunk of time to sink my eyes into it.

I'm fairly new to the group, but I thought it would be fun if we did a group read. You know we read a book and then comment about it, kind of like a regular book club.
Seems like most of us like fantasy/sci-fi. What do you think? If you want to, lets get some book suggestions and then we can vote as to which one we do first.
I pick:
The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy

I am into horror, sci-fi, and non-fiction for photography and photoshop, books regarding psychology and clinical applications too (I am a counselor)
