I recently re-read "The outsiders" by S.E. Hinton. My next door neighbor was reading it for her 8th grade English class and I thought it was time to read it again. It is a great and powerful read. And, I can't wait to watch the movie again. Interesting fact about the author; she wrote the book when she was in high school and it was published when she was in college.

I am reading "The Martian" by Andy Weir and am absolutely riveted! I have to force myself to put it down late at night. Mark Watney is injured during a dust storm on Mars and the rest of his crew, thinking he has died, have to leave. It is an amazing tale of Mark using all of his intelligence and ingenuity to survive. Think of it as a science fiction version of Robinson Crusoe.

I recently finished Carl Hiaasen's newest book "Bad monkey." It's hilarious. Anything by Hiaasen is laugh out loud funny. His young adult novels, "Hoot," "Flush," "Scat," and "Chomp" are great reads as well.

For a current Irish writer, I love Roddy Doyle and my favorite is "Paddy Clark ha ha ha." Paddy is an Irish lad who rampages through the streets of Barrytown with a pack of like-minded hooligans, playing cowboys and Indians, etching their names in wet concrete, and setting fires. Paddy Clarke and his friends are not bad boys; they're just a little bit restless. They're always taking sides, bullying each other, and secretly wishing they didn't have to. All they want is for something--anything--to happen.

A new one has all of us in the workroom cracking up...The day the crayons quit by Drew Daywalt. A box of crayons owned by a boy named Duncan have a few complaints! Beige is tired of playing second fiddle to brown; blue needs a break from coloring all of that water, while pink just wants to be used.
Enjoy!

I just finished this one with my younger daughter. We laughed a lot and are looking forward to watching the movie version.

I am planning on reading "A Christmas Carol" with my girls this year. We love watching the many versions of this classic tale and now are going to try to read it together. We'll see how it goes!

I read the posts about "Ghost story" and have it on reserve. So, Bryan you may have to wait to get this one!

Yes, I was going to mention "Doctor Sleep" and forgot. I am reading "The shining" in order to prepare for the sequel. Don't tell me too much!

I am currently re-reading "The shining" by Stephen King. Yes, this book scares me! When not reading it, I have to place it face down. This is a classic horror novel. You slowly experience Jack losing his mind while the snow piles up at the Overlook Hotel. The reader knows its going to end badly, but the build-up is agonizingly fascinating. Who can forget the classic scene with Jack Nicholson from the movie version, "Here's Johnny!"

I have to agree that the Golden Compass movie did not do justice to the book. The world that Pullman created is so wonderful and evocative...the movie did not have the same feeling.

Howdy! I am Michele and work at both the Westminster and North Carroll branches. I am looking forward to getting more ideas of what to read and sharing the books I have enjoyed.
