97169 So, it's been a few days. CRAZY days. Life doesn't stop for your dreams to come true. Life keeps on keepin' on and you have to fit the dreams under the door like whispered notes. The book came out! And I did my first event. It was HUGE! I'm in awe. Sales are good! Book is at Target, Cotsco... all the major bookstores and indies too! I'm a lucky writer. Here's your question for this week: Anything you want to know about standing in front of about a hundred people and reading your work? (The entire stock was sold out, by the way. 100 books. Poof) XO ~Suzy
97169 Don, you called me honey. I'm yours forever. XO Now... if we could just get me to be the keynote at that DANG conference..... XOXOXOXOXO

Thank you so much. Oh, thank you.
97169 Me too! One more day!
97169 Hey! The book is out there! If you are out and about and you find it? Post here! We can share photos. I'm dying a little.

97169 You'd think that with all the wordsmithing going down here on Goodreads, that they would have found another option for the home page of the group without calling it "GROUP HOME" which just makes me laugh every single time I click on it. That is all.

97169 I call him SPITE puppy because the husband was NOT pleased. He's a year old now. Puggle. Our last dog was a rescue and turned out to be half Mastiff, Half Lab... so he was HUGE! We wanted to know what we were getting.... and, what we got? A ball of energy.

97169 I HAVE A PUPPY. Also, Lost Witches always tend to run from good things. You should know this. YOU ARE A LOST WITCH TOO. XO ;)

97169 I'm sort of, slowly, only now, beginning to understand what is happening in terms of my book coming out. And HOW it is coming out. And now? I'm a restless mess. I'm good, usually, at putting things into perspective.... but this seems hard to place? Any ideas or suggestions on how to make it through the next 6 days without walking into the sea? (Joking....) XO~ Suzy

97169 OH MY GOD YES!!!!!!!!!! That just, I MEAN JUST happened to me. I was waiting for my kid in the school library and I picked it UP and started to read it again.

That scene? When she's being lambasted by her husband? And the breeze off the ocean? Oh holy yes.

97169 I don't have any words or questions today. I'm just a Lost Witch. Make sure to check out all the events scheduled in the events pages, and if you live in CT, Boston, NYC, RI or any of the surrounding states? See if you can come!
97169 I'm one of those people who NEEDS criticism. Sometimes? Even the mean kind. But I know many are not. That it hurts, deeply. Are there any questions you want to ask me about how I respond to rejection or criticism? Or... do you want to share your own feelings about when someone criticizes something you've done? (Written, cooked, created, or... you know.... your CHILD?) :) Ask me.

97169 I can't get over how alike we are!!!
97169 You know, I believe in the opening of a book. I believe that a good hook... even the very first sentence can not only sell the readers, but the author him/herself on the story that's about to unfold under their fingers. I spend a huge amount of time crafting my first sentences. I'll tell you what my favorites are when you've commented here. But the first sentence in THE WITCH OF LITTLE ITALY always spoke to me. It became the TRUTH to my novel:

"All the Amore siblings had The Sight in varying degrees, and its fickleness got us into trouble sometimes..."
What do you think? Is it a good first sentence? What are some of your favorites?

I definitely have authors who have helped me through rough times. I hate to be a cliche, BUT Joan Didion's "Slouching Towards Bethlehem" still saves me from time to time. ..."

Agreed! I love
Dandelion Wine and always, always The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock and Other Poems Thanks for sharing, Nora! Coming to an event? Hope so!

97169 So, the actual countdown begins. Yesterday I began posting (over on my facebook page) about Authors WHO SAVED ME. I began with Pat Conroy and today I highlighted Alice Hoffman. Are there any authors who you have loved so much, that you feel they helped you through a really hard time in your life? Who, and why?

97169 Erica wrote: "Yeah, don't start on the George R. R. Martin books, then. The waiting is long and horrible, worse than the pain everyone went through during the ten years they had to wait for whatever Diana Gabald..."

NOW? Now I have to read George. Thanks. ;)
97169 IT IS TOTALLY MAGIC. I adore you.
97169 OH! You.... Nope. No superhero. And YES to all of the things you listed above. Two books coming out back to back and another two next year. (Not to mention the one I'm writing NOW that isn't even contracted)
The answer is... I don't know. BUT I can give you a peek at what the last MONTH of my life was like. That might help. I work as a teacher. 8:30-3:30 m-f. I work at a university on Mondays from 6-10pm and on Thursdays from 6-10pm teaching classes. I have three daughters. 6, 10, and 19. The oldest is in college, but somehow she needs me more. I have no IDEA WHY.
I get up at 5am. I make coffee, walk the dog, do yoga, make coffee and put on NPR. Then I wake my little girls. I love the morning, it belongs to them. When I get to work, I am able to do a lot of things. My lessons are done in the summer, and I follow them, so I have to be organized. If they are writing essays or testing or there is a movie? I'm writing. On days when I get home at 3:50 or so, I make dinner, and then? Write at the counter while I cook. After I put the kids to bed, I write. On the days when I am working late? I don't go home in between. I write. On the weekends? I write. On vacations? I write. There is no rhyme or reason or plan. No schedule. I just do it. And sometimes? An idea so good comes to me, and I crawl over and under whatever is in my way... so I can grab a pen. There are novels on napkins, stories on styrofoam cups. Notes on my phone. Voice memos too.

But you forgot something! I read. I read and read and read. So, who the heck knows? Maybe my world spins on a slower axis? Hmmmm.... no you have ME wondering! XOXOXOXO
