Chad I definitely plan to do another group read of a chunky book! š

I just finished (finally)! Overall I thought it was really good. I did find the last chapter to be sort of underwhelming. What happened to Ellen? Was she still alive at the end or did I miss it? I also wanted William to face more of a punishment than what he got. Though Iām sure slowly suffocating sucks, I just wanted more. He was such a horrible human being. Iām not sure if I will continue the series. Iām going to think on it. If I do, it wonāt be right away. Thank you guys so much for reading this book with me! I hope you enjoyed it :)

Iām so glad to finally see Alienaās sacrifice was worth something....at least I hope. Richard has bothered me throughout the whole book, being too dependent on his sister and not taking charge of his own self. Iām hoping that now heāll actually be a good earl. That is if William doesnāt kill him. Thereās no way William is just going to give up the earldom and not fight for it.

Wow the end of chapter 10! I did NOT see that coming. Also, I was a little disturbed by the whole bear fight. Oh the things people used to watch to entertain themselves! I am way too squeamish for that kind of entertainment. Oh and PS I HATE WILLIAM SO MUCH.

I really liked how FINALLY Aliena catches a break, and that it was Philip who helped her. What a nice guy! I like how all of the characters story lines are interweaving.

Yes, that scene was SO hard to read. William is a horrible human being and I hope he gets his!

Chad, I felt the same way. My jaw just dropped when I read that scene.

Yes! Ellenās reaction to being called a āfornicatorā was great! It is kind of BS that Tom gets to just go on being Tom and doing his masonry but she has to āconfessā and leave! WTH? Like she said, it takes two to fornicate!

I want to know more about Ellen too! Sheās definitely an interesting character. Weāve gotta see more from her. Sheās definitely not gone for good (I hope).
Iām surprised more people werenāt suspicious of Tom starting the fire. It seems awfully convenient that he shows up looking for work the day before the church catches fire. And also, Jack wouldāve reeked of smoke right? Anyway, I guess they were too busy saying it was the devil lol.

I agree Mike! The birth scene really stuck out for me. I couldn't believe he would just leave his baby to die. Ellen also has me intrigued. She did seem to snag Tom pretty quickly after Agnes' death. It will be interesting to find out more about her and what exactly her motives are.
As for the hierarchy of the church, I had to google lol. I didn't know what a prior was!

I just completed the first section! Woo hoo! Iām enjoying the political intrigue going on within the church and how the charactersā stories are all connecting. The birth scene was pretty brutal, and how Tom handled it was even more brutal! My jaw dropped when he was like āweāre just gonna leave the baby.ā
Jennifer wrote: "Thank you for sharing. I was wondering how you tabbed it. I just divided the total pages by 31 for the number of days in July to make my tabs. It ends up being about 31 pages each day. Iām sure Iāl..."That's actually a great way to do it. 31 pages a day is definitely doable!
Theresa wrote: "I am lost. Your going to read the two first parts of the book and chapter one of part three all on the first day? In my book that is over 400 pages in one day. You guys are awesome if you can read ..."Sorry you're confused Theresa! What I meant when I said Chapter 1 part 3 is that a lot of the chapters are long (like 100 pages sometimes) but they're broken up into roman numerals within the chapter (at least that's how my copy is). So for example today I read from the beginning of the book to Chapter 1 part 3 (or technically roman numeral 3) which is page 42 in my book. I would LOVE to be able to read 400 pages in a day, but that is not the case lol! The way I've broken it down, I'll read anywhere from 20-70 pages a day.

The read along starts tomorrow! Who is excited?? In case anyone was interested in how I tabbed my book, here is the breakdown. Don't feel like you need to tab your book this way; I just thought I'd share my plan. Tabbed out the way that I have it, I will finish the book by the end of the month.
Day 1- start to Chapter 1.3 (meaning chapter 1 part 3)
Day 2- Chapter1.3 to Chapter 2
Day 3- Chapter 2 to Chapter 2.3
Day 4- Chapter 2.3 to Chapter 3
Day 5- Chapter 3 to Chapter 4
Day 6- Chapter 4 to Chapter 4.2
Day 7- Chapter 4.2 to Chapter 4.3
Day 8- Chapter 4.3 to Chapter 5
Day 9- Chapter 5 to Chapter 5.3
Day 10- Chapter 5.3 to Chapter 6.2
Day 11- Chapter 6.2 to Chapter 7
Day 12- Chapter 7 to Chapter 7.3
Day 13- Chapter 7.3 to Chapter 8
Day 14- Chapter 8 to Chapter 9
Day 15- Chapter 9 to Chapter 9.3
Day 16 - Chapter 9.3 to Chapter 10.3
Day 17- Chapter 10.3 to Chapter 10.5
Day 18- Chapter 10.5 to Chapter 11
Day 19- Chapter 11 to Chapter 12
Day 20- Chapter 12 to Chapter 12.2
Day 21- Chapter 12.2 to Chapter 13
Day 22- Chapter 13 to Chapter 13.2
Day 23- Chapter 13.2 to Chapter 14
Day 24- Chapter 14 to Chapter 14.2
Day 25- Chapter 14.2 to Chapter 15
Day 26- Chapter 15 to Chapter 15.3
Day 27- Chapter 15.3 to Chapter 16.2
Day 28- Chapter 16.2 to Chapter 17
Day 29- Chapter 17 to Chapter 18
Day 30- Chapter 18 to END
So that's my plan! Feel free to use it if you'd like. I'm sorry if it's a bit confusing because the way I tabbed my copy doesn't exactly align with the way I broke up the discussion. I made the discussion breaks bigger so that they end up being about every 100-150 pages or so, so that you can stop and chat in the group. I tabbed my book so that every day I'm reading anywhere from 20-70 pages. I did this because I'm most likely not going to be able to read a whole chapter a day in some cases because some of the chapters are 100 pages long and 100 pages a day is a bit much for me lol.
Please feel free to introduce yourself here and share how you're breaking up your read (if tabbing is your thing). Again, there is NO PRESSURE to finish this read in a given amount of time. Read when you can, chat when you can :)
