Poll

Who wants to read 100 Years of Solitude and participate in a group discussion starting around/about the 15th of April?

(Completed reading not required; we will probably break it into a number of chapters per week if that works for everyone. Also, I'll post some contextual stuff as we go.)
One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel García Márquez

If lots of people want to, I'll join in.

it's not really about time, it's about not being able to summon any interest in actually reading it.

I gotta go with ben on this one. There are too many more interesting books to read!

Dude, when I read the reviews it seemed like everyone took the book like medicine! Like totally hated it?! (you have to say the hated it out loud like in the SNL skit)

I remember enjoying the book more. Maybe I'll propose Love in the Time of Cholera instead. That one has a Javier Bardem movie. He's yummy.

this is my favorite of the reviews:

"YUCK! One of the worst books I have ever read. I gave it one star because there was nothing lower."

i gotta follow the crowd on this one, especially after the comments in the other thread.

OK, well looks like we're starting so I'm gonna close the thread and let Michael lead the discussion, since I have short stories already.

if there was any way y'all could wait on this a little, like say a week and a half or two, i would join in, but as it is, i am about to start Drood A Novel, which is 800 pages long.

it's not a demand; i don't usually have much to say anyway. just sayin'.

i was hoping the same thing -- at one point somebody was saying summer read, and while i don't want to wait that long, two week respite would be nice. :)

Yeah, at least two would be good for me. I will need at least that much time for the Infinite Jest. Probably more like four weeks but I can work with two.

If we want to wait until... say... May 1?

I will moderate, if Michael is still governing Massachusetts...
