Hey guys, if you’re struggling to figure out if a book fits with our adventure theme, check the tags on goodreads for the book. Often it will say adventure on it.
I would say books that take you on emotional adventures instead of physical adventures technically do fit the theme but try to stick to physical adventures as we’re going more for an exciting list.

*Adventure/Fantasy/High Fantasy/Fiction/Middle Grade
(This is one of my favourite middle grade series with lots of adventure. It has important themes about friendship, rebellion, classism, and power.)
[It's both a emotional adventure and very action-packed physical one!]
Ottilie Colter and the Narroway Hunt (Book one in trilogy)
*Adventure/Fantasy/ Magic/Middle Grade
(I really love this trilogy! It has the cross-dressing trope where our protagonist disguises herself as a guy in order to save her brother. It is set in a misogynistic society with topics surrounding gender roles and equality.)
Sir Callie and the Champions of Helston [First book]
*Adventure/Fantasy/LGBT/Fiction
(This is one of the most important middle grade fantasies I have ever read. It is more dark than most middle grade dealing with physical abuse, sexism, and more. It's set in a place where they have a conservative view on gender, with strict gender roles and misogynistic rules. Our protagonist is non-binary so they face a lot of prejudice and disrespect from others.)
This has a impactful emotional journey as well as a lot of physical adventure such as sword fights, and battles.
The Lock-Eater[Standalone]
*Fantasy/LGBT/Adventure/Magic
(This is like a perfect mixture of an evocative atmosphere and captivating writing. It's really a unique read that has left quite the impression on me. It's one of those books that perfectly capture the beauty and oddness of magic! There are some pretty mind-boggling plot twists in here and a fair share of action!)
Brother's Keeper by Julie Lee [Standalone]
*Adventure/Historical Fiction/Survival/ Middle Grade/War/Family
[Honestly my favourite historical fiction of all time. It takes place during the Korean war. It was one of the most powerful and heart-breaking books I have ever read. To this day I try to recommend it to anyone I possible can. There is a strong focus on relationships between family members that is really explored throughout the book!]
This book has a lot of action because the characters have to survive. There is both a fantastic physical journey and emotional one.
Children of the Fox by Kevin Sands[First book in a trilogy]
*Adventure/Fantasy/Mystery/Magic
[This book is about characters pulling off a difficult heist. A bunch of criminals/thiefs band together to pull this off. It's non-stop action with captivating writing!)
The Blackthorn Key [First book in a series]
*Adventure/Mystery/Historical Fiction
[A truly fantastic series that stays consistently adventurous. It's filled with codes, secrets, and ciphers that keep the plot going. This series has captivated many people in my grade who normally don't read books.]
The False Prince
*Fantasy/Middle Grade/Fiction/Mystery
[Really interesting middle grade series. It's about three boys recruited to pose as the dead prince in order to save a crumbling kingdom. The twists in here are shocking and the protagonist is one of the most intelligent I have ever read about.]

OMG!! The Blackthorn Key!! You’re the first person I’ve come across who’s read it too! I looooove that series. I think I read it 2 years ago now and I have such nostalgia for that series. Did you finish the series? I never got past book 4 but I really want to get back into it so I can finish the series and see more of Christopher and Sally because they are so sweet and Tom too of course because he’s hilarious. I love the trio so much and the mysteries are always great along with the adventure of them.
Maybe I’ll read book 4 as part of this readathon now...
You’ve got great choices here! I’ll add them all to the poll above

Dungeons and dragons yes! Have you ever read Scales & Scoundrels Definitive Edition Book 1: Where Dragons Wander? It’s not DnD but the similar vibes and adventure of it is so fun plus the art is great like Nimona type art. I think you’d like it!

We had it as one of series readathons didn’t we? Apart from you I can’t remember if anyone else took part lol.
If you want to read book 4 any time soon and want to buddy read it let me know!

I want to do it this year for sure. Is the readathon discussion still up?

I completely forgot that we got that far, but I just checked and yeah it’s still up. I want to get round to it this year too. I should try fitting it into one of the TBR challenge tasks because that really motivates me to read stuff. I wonder if it will fill any of them🤔

Pegasus by Kate O’Hearn
Darkroom by KR Alexander
Michael Vey by Richard Paul Evans

That’s a great idea! I wanted to do like a DNF event for ages because I tend to DNF a lot of my readathon reads and there are ones I want to finish but then I wondered how to make it relevant for people who don’t have DNF’d books. Making it like a catch up event could work!
It could be like a lucky dip of all our events’ books. Like the random picker could have the names of all the events and then the ones it picks for you you read something from that event’s book list etc. That actually sounds fun! We should do that in June to celebrate the group anniversary

Middleworld
I didn't love these books, but that's all the adventure I can think of besides Blackthorn Key.
Didn't we start a Michael Vey readathon? I love that series.

I don’t think we started a readathon. I think we read book 1 as a buddy read. Quite a few people too I think, I think it was on one of the book lists for an event and then a couple of us collectively decided to read it.
It would make for a good series readathon though. Gotta remember to keep that in mind for the future

I know right! I'm putting together the book list right now so the full thing should be up soon.

Jami this poll has been closed all month now! There are no open polls on the group and I haven’t sent out an invite to vote in it since last month so it was probably an old message for this one. I’ll be setting up a poll for next month’s readathon within the new few days so you should get an invite to that one.
Also it’s probably not very clear but when I say “don’t vote” at the top of the thread in the poll description, I actually mean vote by writing in an answer instead of selecting from the existing options. I should probably change the wording of that to make it clearer.

Audrey wrote: "I got a message, too. GR being weird again."
That’s really weird! Did you previously get a message about this one back when the poll was actually open? I always wonder if the poll invites actually work because I never get poll invites.
If you didn’t get it before then it must be a lagging message but if you did then it’s goodreads plainly messing it up because I never sent a new invite and this poll is closed anyway so you can’t send a new invite for closed polls!
