Debra This comment may not be loved by all, but here goes. I work in elementary schools. When the Printz Award began I was happy as then our Newbery titles would be more elementary in my thinking. That has not happened at all.

I find it frustrating. There is no way I could put Death in the Jungle in elementary. I love Candace Fleming and hope she gets a nod, but I want a younger audience book, so my students can relish in the Newbery in January.

I have also thought that since the Printz Award was instituted, that the Newbery Award age range should be lowered, to 0-12.

Elaine Fultz, Teacher Librarian, MLS I'm reading El Niño now and would love to hear what other people think about it. But I also would love to read death in the jungle. Regardless of whether I add it to our Elementary library or not.

Shella Fleming has another book out for 2025- Is it Real? About the Loch Ness Monster - that may be more for the younger range. I just got both her books from my library today.
