Not sure where I fit in, since I studied engineering, then ended up with an MFA in painting. I studied math and science quite a bit before I switched to art, my true passion. I'll put as interested in science/math.

Put yourself wherever you feel most comfortable. I know the options are limited and rather vague, but the objective is just to get an idea whether people are practicing scientists or lay people. Since your true passion is art, you're choice was probably correct. I think it's great that you're still maintaining your interest in science and math, too, as evidenced by your membership in this group.

Welcome, Drake. I don't usually go into people's profile unless they vex me or friend me, but the fact that your parents named you after the Drake Equation intrigued me. I like your writing tips. LOL.
Community college drop-out, but still very interested in science and math!
It was hard to pick a category... I work for the Government (NASA), but I'm not an engineer or scientist.

Hi! I'm a philosophy and biology student in college curently - I'm excited to join this group (this is my first post! I'm pretty new to GoodReads too!) since I was currently reading GEB anyway and it'll be nice to be able to discuss some of the ideas with you all.
Welcome, Nick! I'm enjoying GEB. Speaking of biology, I'm halfway into the book and starting Chapter XVI, Self-Ref and Self-Rep, which compares genetic coding with mathematical logic. I'm loving how he's making his points by pulling information from diverse areas, from art to biology.

I studied science and math and taught those topics for two years before switching to psychology. I taught that for 20+ years and then joined my husband in a a Human Resources consulting firm where I worked until retirement in 2006. I do not know where that fits in your poll.

I majored in business and minored in Geology and still have a strong interest in the earth sciences and often wonder what would have happened if I had majored in Geology and gone on to work in that field. It was an exciting time, plate tectonics was just beginning to be accepted, the bird-dinosaur connection was gaining ground, etc.By my rough calculations almost a third of the poll respondents are either career scientists or science teachers. It's great to have all of you as resources in this group.
I REALLY am not sure where I fit in. I am a retired stay at home Mom who got through one year of Community College. However, libraries are my play ground and I will read just about anything. I enjoyed science in school and it continues to this day. I want to know why, how, when and where as well as what is around the next corner. Love being a full time RVer and thank God every day for my iPad! So many books, so little time.

Yes they are awesome! Books weigh a ton and when you only have 40ft to work with something has to give. I LOVE technology! It has saved my life.

As a retired navy wife movers hated packing us out. At one point I had around 50 book boxes. Don't know how much each box weighed, but I know the movers hated them. LOL I have to say that when the time came that I had to reduce the number of books I had it was heart breaking. I love the smell of new books so much that I didn't think I would like an iPad, but it turns out I really enjoy it....until the book I absolutely have to have doesn't come in e-book format. I sure hope I am not "talking" too much. I am so excited to find a book "home".

I recently saw a product advertised that you might find amusing -- it was a spray for e-readers that would add the scent of a new book. I think that's very funny.

Now THAT is funny. I ran the Navy Base library in Western Australia for a little while back in the late 80's early 90's and was the first one to get my hands on the new books! It was heaven! Just the smell....what a memory!
I teach mathematics at a small liberal arts university in North Carolina. So I put "mathematician" in the poll. I am very happy to be in this group.
I put myself as a health professional, but I'm technically just a public health worker.

My PhD was in astrophysics and I am a practising scientist, so I ended up in that category, but my work today consists of designing interactive and immersive installations (ie. mixing science and art) for people with disability, so I'm not sure I fit any of the categories lol
