“Kenya has been cited as a positive example where implementation of an authenticity labeling system, to help consumers identify counterfeit goods (that presumably pay no tax), has improved tax compliance by 45 percent.25 Conversely, when asked why they don’t pay taxes, many Africans will cite a perception of unfairness, a lack of transparency, and a fear of funds being diverted for corrupt purposes.26 AI, coupled to an incorruptible, unchangeable, transparent accounting system, could help deliver a way forward.”
