Into Thin Air
By Jon Krakauer

Jon Krakauer is obviously a nature lover and adventure nut, so why is it his books always make me fear to leave the well-lighted, air-conditioned bosom of civilization?

The other book of his I've read is Into The Wild , which was made into that movie about a kid who tries to go live in the wilds of Alaska and ends up dying of starvation/exposure/whatehaveyou.

This book is about a team trying to climb Mount Everest, and some of them freezing to death.

The story is certainly compelling, and chock full of information about the history of climbing Everest and the technical, physical and mental requirements, but gee whiz it encourages people never to want to go near a mountain.

Then again, I listened to this book while driving around to various points in the hills of North Georgia to hike by my lonesome, so obviously I haven't taken all of its lessons to heart
