I have various ways to choose my next new book, but I find that my favorite books are found when I spend physical time in a book store perusing shelf by shelf. It might be the atmosphere that a store bursting with books creates, but I feel a sense of peace almost like being welcomed home. The cover and title definitely are big factors that come into play when I'm browsing through shelves.
I also like to read the first chapter of a book before I buy it because it gives me a sense of the authors voice and if I will connect with the characters. The first chapter needs to be intriguing enough for me to want to continue reading. If I'm debating on spending a few more hours in the store just so I can read a little more, then I'm definitely going to buy the book eventually. If I can set the book down after the first chapter without a second thought, then I probably won't be able to finish the book at my normal rate and eventually abandon it.

I'm a major cover lover because if the author hasn't spent time on the cover, why would they spend time on the contents? Normally I go with friend recommendations too, especially if they're buzzing about it :)

Isn't it so frustrating when you read an awesome book and then think "Te cover could be so much more epic!"

Definitely! I also hate when the characters on the cover don't match their descriptions in the book. If the girl has hair as black as ink, then why on the cover is it light brown? Come on people!

Ha, ha, ha! Are you knocking a certain vampire series that we both love?

Yes!! I am, but I love it too much to mention it by name :) They totally were on acid when they were picking the characters. NOTHING like I pictured. Which reminds me that I need to add my next character to the character contest thread
