I read the book long ago but since the movie is coming and it's our monthly read, I will read it once again!!
Hey nada so you bought yourself hardcover copy, great girl.. :) and you anastasia? What kind of copy you own?

the first time was a hardcover copy(my brother owns everything of Tolkien) but now I think I will download an audio book..(you know, a fairytale just before sleep time)
Haha... Audio book seems good option.. :)
Well I started reading it, and it's great..the level of details and quality of writing is simply awesome...

I actually read the Lord of the Rings trilogy first, when I was 9 years old, because my mother (NOT a fantasy reader) recommended it. This was before the Internet so it wasn't so easy to figure out that I really should have read The Hobbit first!
I'm a total Tolkien geek now, though.
I always recommend it to my Uni students. Many of them have seen the LOTR films and had NO idea that The Hobbit comes first and really clears up a lot of the background for LOTR.

Sorry I've spent so much time in the Lurkers' Lounge!
Anyone on the fence about reading this fabulous, classic book, I just can't recommend it enough. This is what fantasy is supposed to be.
Funny, there are no female characters, really, but that never bothered me (usually it is a deal-breaker). I always wanted to be Gandalf!

It is always a thrill to gush about Tolkien with people discovering his world for the first time. IN fact, I just finished reading some book reports from three girls who chose to read The Hobbit for one of my classes (I'm a cool teacher, I always have my students choose their own books!!) and I was just so tickled that they liked it enough that they are planning to go see the movie together when it comes out!
Heck, I may be sitting right next to them with the popcorn!

Yay!!! Enjoy reading it!! :)

:) I know the feeling! I always get excited when I see my students' interest about a book!!
-and I will definitely go and watch this film!!!I can't wait...

Same here. I read the trilogy first then I found out that The Hobbit comes first. It really helped me in understanding how the ring was found in the first place. place.

He changes his voice so much, you really think there are other actors too!! He does Gandalf and Gollum the best!!

So we have the same copy!!:)

I know what you mean...but finally Mr. Baggins outsmarted him! If only you could hear Smaug's voice!! I daresay that this is the best narration of an audiobook I've ever heard!

"Hello, thief...." As I said, his part is actually small but, just like Mr. Rickman always does, Smaug steals the show.

I even bought the deluxe edition of Robin Hood Prince of Thieves (which was otherwise a pretty bed movie) because it has more scenes with the Sheriff!
Colonel Brandon in Sense and Sensiblility is my favorite. Swoon.
Anyway, the talented Mr. Rickman of the Velvet Voice would do an awesome dragon!
I always felt sorry for Smaug. Evil, maybe, but after all they did try to steal his stuff! That would annoy anyone, especially a dragon. He was just acting according to his nature.

I agree with you about the dragon, he is what he should be inside a Tolkien book, after all he is Smaug the Magnificent.

Thanks...I'll put it on my "to do" list for Dec. Loved the book, and look forward to the movie.

Yes, me too! Let's hope that Peter Jackson has made a brilliant job once again!

Tell me about it!! I wish that a day could have 24 hours more in it!!Or if humans didn't need 8 hours of sleep to recharge...you see what lack of time does to a person's mind???? %)
p.s:Slow is good!!!
@ Anastasia:
haha.. just other day i was thinking same thing.. as to why do we need 8 hours of sleep, and what would have happened if earth had 10 hours of day cycle like Jupiter and not 24 hours. :) curious yet childish thing to think.. but one does wonder..
Usually I am not a sleeping kind of guy, I prefer to sleep less :) but sometimes i get this huge headache (just like hangover..) so i guess i know what less sleeping does to our brain.. :p
