Lauren Second book in the Song of Ice and Fire Series! For those early readers that are eager to discuss! (Totally didn't realize how many spelling errors I put into this post . . had to come back and edit!)

Lauren Although I liked Games of Thrones a little bit more than this one it still held on to the magical aspect that drew me into the first. I love most of the characters storylines however I did find myself wanting to skip over some of them (Theon), I suppressed this urge and read on.

I like that in this one we get to see a change in the characters and learn a different viewpoint about them (especially Jaime). Sansa is still irritating me and I don’t know why but Bran just gets on my nerves, I know he is a kid but man he just annoys me. Arya and Tyrion are still my favorites and their story just keeps getting better and better!

There is always the problem of keeping the characters straight but I didn’t have as much trouble with that as I did in the first book. It didn’t detract too much from the series and I thought all of the different perspectives made the book so enjoyable.

Jacky I really liked this book. I like the way the story is told through different characters perspectives.
I actually liked Sansa a whole lot more in this book (in her situation I'd be dead by now lol) than the first (wanted to slap her silly). I dislike Bran a little more, probably because he's not doing much of anything, hopefully this will change. Catelyn, just annoys me. Still want to punch Joffrey in the face. Love Tyrion!
I have to say of all the little bit players in the book, I think The Hound is great.

Ceecee (qquiet) | 8 comments I think I'll start reading this tomorrow. :)

Elise | 4 comments If I start the series, should I read the book first, or is it better understandable when you would first watch it?

In my opinion, it doesn't matter with the first one because the tv series follows the book so closely, there's not much difference at all.
I watched the series first, but that's just because I refuse to get caught up in book hype anymore lol.

Season 1 follows the book closely, so it really doesn't matter if you watched it first or you read the book first. From what I hear, Season 2 changes a lot of things from the book to make it more exciting. The TV series is a pretty good adaptation, so you could understand the story easily without having to read the books.

I watched the series first, and enjoyed it. I'm catching up on reading the books, and it's a different kind of enjoyment, because of more detailed aspects of the setting and characters. And I like that arrangement. So I say, watch season 1 and 2 first, then read the books, if you can't wait for season 3. :)

I started the 1st book a few days and I have realized that this book is going to take me forever to read because it just doesn't hold my attention but I'm determined to finish this book :)

Thanks, I will do that! (when I have time... too much books, too much series :) )

Don't I know the feeling! Well I hope you start the series. It was pretty amazing, at least to me. :D

I really hope you do finish it. It's amazing how Martin created this world. It would also help if you watch the series. :)

Renee Lawrence So it seems as though I'm a month behind in this club. I was hoping that I could finish Game of Thrones and quickly read this book to catch up but sadly I don't think I am going to find the time to read all of this book in a week or two and then start on book 3. Either way it's great to see that this group leaves the discussion blogs up for awhile...so even if I am behind then I can still see what everyone thought of the series as I slowly make my way through it.

I'm only about 60 pages in so far. This book doesn't seem like it will be as exciting as Game of Thrones was, but I am hopeful that it will still grab my attention enough so that I don't take too too long to read it. I'm also interested to see if I will have the attention span on this one to pick out the differences from book vs. TV show. I have heard some say that this book is more filler than action. So I am a little skeptical about how much I may like this book.

Maggie the Muskoka Library Mouse (mcurry1990) I loved this series, and thought the level of detail was fantastic. I enjoy chunky novels, and "A Song of Ice and Fire" books surely do meet that criteria!
